Question 5How did you attract/address your

audience?

By George Rapson

Page 2: Evaluation q5

I created a questionnaire which helped me attract a target audience. This was because I could evaluate through the results of the questionnaire I sent out and I could look at who my target audience was, this meant that I could then aim my magazine at a specific group, age and gender.

The first question I asked: Do you read music magazines? As the graph shows, 17 people said they did and 3 said they didn’t. This meant that I had a target audience that read music magazines, it meant I could target and attract people towards my own music magazine. The second question was again important, asking them what their favourite part of a music magazine was. 6 people (the most) said that their favourite part was the front cover a music magazine, this meant I needed to concentrate on an attractive front cover that would draw readers in. The contents, information and interviews in a magazine all respectively and equally received 4 votes each. This meant that all 3 were very important when coming to create my magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread as I needed to include all 3 of these things. Finally the competition picked up 2 votes which is also another attraction to a music magazine and draws readers in if they have the chance to win something they like.

Big bold green header at the top stands out over the black and blue background. This attracts the reader because it really stands out, it is one of the first things you notice very quickly and attracts you to look at the magazine in more further detail. Big image standing out in the Indie style that would attract readers due to the sense of style and pose my artist is posing in the centre right of the front cover. In my questionnaire, respondents said they are attracted the most by front covers so I needed to make this as attractive as I could by adding a picture of this artist that looks very professional. In my questionnaire respondents said they would like to see interviews in my magazine as it attracts them to it more. In my music magazine front cover I have advertised the interview as the main feature in my magazine. ‘Exclusive interview on his debut album inside!’ this would attract my readers.Again another feature respondents wanted to see in my magazine was more artists, information and news. So I put it in my magazine to attract readers into it more. In my questionnaire I asked respondents what they would most like in a magazine and 2 people voted for a competition so I have included this in my magazine. As you can see I have a competition for 2 tickets to Reading festival. This again relates to my indie genre as festivals are only really known in the indie/rock genre. This would make the magazine more attractive as readers know they have the chance to win something, that also relates to the genre of the music magazine.I asked readers what they would usually pay for a music magazine and how much they would consider paying for mine. The price range was between £2 to £3 so I decided to spilt it in-between at £2.50. Again this attracts the reader as it is the preferred consensus of the price.

Inside Issue is wrote in the same font, style and colour as IndieRock was written on my music magazine cover. This was put on there to gain more notice so readers know that this is the contents page and this is where they can navigate through the magazine. Again the contents page was very popular on my questionnaire for what readers wanted to see in my music magazine so I put it in here to attract them to it. In this issue I have made it bold again, underlined it and made it black keeping to my colour code throughout my magazine which is black and green. As respondents wanted to see information, interviews and news throughout my magazine I piled up my contents page with all of these features including interviews with Manhattan, Sunset Sunrise, The Shades, Hannah Rose, Michael Stone, Cami and the main interview which is featured in my front cover and double page spread: Interview with Ryan Szram.

In the usual I have made it bold again, underlined it and made it black keeping to my colour code through my magazine which is black and green. As respondents wanted to see news and information, and win a competition, I included latest news in the indie world, upcoming concerts, indie chart, two tickets to Reading festival, special report on Reading festival, preview to next months to issue and a new interview with the Foals.

Here I have included page numbers, the website and an advertisement to the subscription page. This was just added content and features I needed to help fill up my contents page as I was running out of ideas and didn’t know what else to put. I felt the subscription advertisement was important as it holds the success to the magazines future as finding out who subscribes helps forecast costs and income to the company. Also the website was included to add more advertisement and awareness of the IndieRock brand.
