PHOTOSHOP & EDITING SOFTWARESBY NABEELA HAMID

PHOTOSHOP I used Photoshop (Digital Technology) to create my Short film poster ‘Redemption: A Tale Untold’.

I am very familiar with Photoshop and enjoy using it, I enjoy being creative and exploring new things inside Photoshop, for example I recently established what a vanishing point enables you to do. I wanted to use it on my short film poster and see how it looked, it was part of experimentation, take a look below. I applied the release date running along the subway wall, unfortunately it didn't work well. Over all Photoshop allowed me to bring my drafted poster to life. What

would we do without digital technology?

Poster Draft Photoshop – Vanishing Point BEFORE AFTER

AFTER EFFECTS After effects enabled me to create the clone effect shot at home, I ran into some issues with how the two shots were different in colour, I had then needed to

apply a colour correction in order to fit Emily in the shot when she sees herself being strangled by Rak.

I also used after effects to make the title sequence, a title sequence helps the audience identify the genre, it contributes to the anticipation and set the whole mood and atmosphere of a film. I then drafted out some ideas and began creating a title sequence in after effects. It had strong connotations of the film, the 3

letters of the word REDEMPTION were coloured in red which represents and points out to the audience that the short is based on Red Riding Hood. It also signifies danger/ blood and points out the main genres (Fantasy/ Horror). I applied a grunge texture wallpaper in the background which emphasis on the

howwor, the trees were then put into 3D layers creating depth, the trees emphasise of Red Riding Hood when she walks through the forest as well as on horror as the forest is a typical location in horrors and is very isolates.

CLONE EFFECT TITLE SEQUENCE

FINAL CUT PRO Final cut pro is the main editing software we used in post production in the making of our short film.

This is were we put all the shots together, including shots done of after effects such as the clone effect and the title sequence.

We applied a present filter onto particular shots when Emily is dressed as Red Riding Hood, which emphasises to the audience that Emily is in a Fantasy world.

We applied all our sound effects/ soundtracks/ and voice overs in Final cut pro by importing them and then altering the sound using audio filters to reduce noise in our sound recordings which we

then place in the timeline at certain points to build tension up towards the climax, etc.

We also used Final Cut Pro to colour correct extremely dark scenes, I did this by changing the exposure/ brightness and contrast settings.

We were also able to apply the credits by using the text tool and made it appear in the intro.

Final cut pro also enabled us to mute the diegetic sounds of cars and trains that were caught in our clips. We also able to trim/ blade certain clips and sections. For example we really like a shot when Emily is speaking to her mum on the phone, however at the end of the shot she smiled, we then

needed to trim the clip in order to remove that scene and we were then able to use the shot.

Final cut pro was very useful in creating the entire short film, particularly the ending, we were able to use one shot, which we the split into two, masked Emily out, grabbed a screenshot of the forest without any subjects entering the shot, froze the shot and transitioned between them both, it then appears as it Emily is running away from the horrific scene she witnessed of herself being raped and strangled by Rak, she then disappears. The disappearance could be s sign that the drugs have worn

of and she in now back into reality, it depends on how the audience may interpret it.
