How does the media product use/develop/challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?

Direct mode of address

Picture of band to be quite humorous to attract the target audience/to represent them .

The main colours of the magazine are yellow, red and black.

Buzz words attract the audience to a certain part of the page.

The style of the magazine is quite laid back and funny

The black and red colours represent the rock genre of the magazine

The title

I have used the typical banner seen at the bottom of magazines which states the bands featured in the magazine and to add effect I have placed images in-between the spaces.

Made too look scratched/mashed up to []

Page 3: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

The text in the contents is all in line with the same coloured text

The contents is in the primary optical area

It’s conventional to have the columns in the contents

With the picture pointing downwards it directs the eyes towards the main feature of the magazine

This background looks scratched with the eraser tool to keep the theme of the magazine

I’ve used grid lines to make sure the different coloured texts are in line

Page 4: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

Typical banner with guitars for the background to represent the rock/heavy metal theme

Same width

Buzz words to attract attention to the page.

Changed the hue and saturation of this image to make it look like it is night time to add effect to the other parts of the page

conventional intro however instead of making it bold to attract attention I have changed its colour.

Mainly image on this side of the page

Title styled like graffiti and since it is the title it has been placed in the primary optical area

The double page spread also breaks the conventions as the colour scheme isn’t conforming to the rest of the pages as the yellow colour as been replaced with a dark orange to give this page a unique look.

How does the media product represent particular social groups?

Shows out the social group with the long hair as the social group looks like that.

Using language that me target audience would use so the magazine seems more personal to them

Page 6: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

this image represents my particular social group because the character is wearing the type of clothes they would wear.

Page 7: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

These different picture’s represent my social group because they are posing in quite a cocky style which my social group would appeal to as they would be cocky in nature

This image expresses a childish and cocky attitude to the magazine

Images look like graphite to represent my audience’s style

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

•For media distribution I will use Bauer media because they are also the distributers of kerrang and which is great since it is of a similar style to the my magazine

•it also publishes Q, highlighting the fact it publishes a wide range of rock music. The main type of music my magazine is based around

Page 9: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

Ideal audience • The target audience is:• 16-19 year old • They would like to hang round Manchester in urbis and some can be stereo typed

as Goths/Emo’s and Mosher's • They Would like mainly rock music, metal and “screamo” music. • They would like to wear dark, usually black or individual looking cloths, with spikes

on and things like that on. and some of the audience would wear eye-liner, and style their hair and sometimes dyes it.

• Common words they would say include: “awesome” ,“sweet” and “epic”• They would probably like to go into town with their friends and go to concerts like,

Rob zombie, Death Stars, mindless self indulgence, and underground bands like terminal hospitality.

They like these bands because they are quite different, and they like their individuality and like to look individual themselves so would use them as inspiration for their style and way of life.

How did you attract/address your audience ?

To attract the audience I used people with long hair to look like my audience and appeal to them in that way.

This image is quite humorous because it is quite random with the funny looking creature, and so this will appeal to the audience

Bands like this attract the audience because the audience will appeal to these bands

Language that my target audience would use so this appeals to them

Page 12: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

This small picture in the corner is quite humorous with its funny facial expression appealing to the audience.

These pictures of the band members will appeal to the target audience because of there expressions and physicality's.

With metal bands like Dethklok which keeps the metal theme but also appeals to the audience as they see bands which appeal to their interests in bands.

The background image appeals to the audience because it is humorous and looks like it is graphite which appeals to my target age range as part of my audience would be interested in graphite

Images like these are quite cocky images with poses

This image appeals to the audience in its cocky attitude, which appeals to the audience with the rock sign which my target audience appeals to

This title appeals to the audience in is black and red which are colours my audience would be attracted too and it also like graphite which my audience will appeal to as part of it would take it as a hobby

The language in the article is quite informal and uses some swear words to appeal to the audience

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt a great many things during this process, for instance the principle of thirds where by my pictures I produced for the magazine have been improved with more focus on certain people or objects in the image.

I have also learnt about the Gutenberg diagram in which has helped me with the layout of the magazine, making sure the main titles are always in the primary optical area.

photography

Page 15: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

PhotoshopI have learnt more about Photoshop, with the tools, effects and many different things that Photoshop offers helping me acquire a good media product.

Tools, the main tools I used in creating effect: like the lasso tool and eraser tool, I have used in order to make the typography; of the magazine seem , broken cracked and scratched which gives the connotation that the music is heavy, aggressive and rebellious

There are also a great many effects I used to change image’s hue and saturation to fit in with the colours/give more variety in the magazine. Like in the double page in which I discovered this by changing the background image to give it a unique effect as if it was taken at night time giving effect to all the other texts in the magazine as it makes them seem brighter

Blogging

• I have also learnt about blogging at blogger.com which has helped me showcase my work where by I can post, all kinds of items, like: video's images documents to be shown on the world wide web

Page 17: Evaluation Proposal Presentation

The preliminary task has been quite useful in my developments leading up to the magazine, I have learnt many things from it which have helped me on my final product. As you can see I have improved greatly since my ancillary project for instance I have: a better colour range in my final product which is designed for a particular audience rather than the random colour range in my ancillary project, I also have an individual masthead that has its own font and I haven't used that font for any other text on the page. The texts on my final product are more distinct and the background picture fits in with all the other images and texts on the page where as my ancillary project doesn’t look very distinct with the colours and images. From looking at other magazine double page articles I have managed to use them as models for my own, and I have been able to see how the editor uses language to involve the reader. An example of this would be with Kerrang magazine, in which it focuses informal language using swear words and colloquial language to attract its audience because they are used to this type of language.

I have also learnt how all music magazines conform to the same conventions irrelevant of their genre. They will all have bar codes, issue numbers, dates and prices on the front cover. This is Shown by the comparison of Q to KERRANG which both display the same layout and structure despite containing different musical genres.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product
