In what ways does your media product use, develop,or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?(front cover)

Well like the typical music magazine I have Adapted the medium shot photo to dominate the front cover. I do this by making the photo take the most space on the page and have the

best coverage of the page with a relevant person to the magazine subject

A convention of a monthly edition I also challenge a convention by making

That the free CD message is on the Ear brow. My own convention of ‘women's rock edition

placed on the ear brow when clearly rock

Another convention of a Music magazine does not represent women very well.

Is that the main points of an article is bold And big such as “Exclusive Article” and “The

Another convention is that the title of theBeatles” since there a famous band and this

magazine is big and bold and attractive to a new Issues magazine is mainly on them/similar

audience just testing the magazine and to look Bands.

Good for a advertisement proposal. Rock music magazine tend to have the

Bands such as the Beatles usually have a main Convention that any picture of the Beatles

one which for the Beatles was “Paul McCartney” need a flashy big title as there world known.

Magazine which do issues on bands such as these

tend to have the convention of the other band members

being smaller then the “Main” and behind him.Another convention I use is that the not wellKnown articles should be packed and smallerFont and less classy.

An additional convention with the “not well a general convention used in nearly every music

Known article is the Colored words for magazine where they put the barcode on the

Need to know things that are rare or not in bottom right corner, and the price/issue No/

Other magazine such as “Exclusive”. date to be placed on top is used.

In what ways does your media product use, develop,or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?(front cover)

Another convention music magazine uses when involving pictures is that to tell the person to look forward creating the effect that the person is looking into your soul making you look like your on the same Wavelength.

Another way I attract the audience Is by showing them I'm a Beatle Fan by using the Beatles font ‘Bootle’

The price of the magazine is 4.50 as it’s a

convention for expensive magazines focused

on the middle/upper class creating a effect of

that your more sophisticated and in that

class if you buy the magazine.

In what ways does your media product use, develop,or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?(contents page)

A convention for most magazines is that the contents pageUsually shows either the magazine title name as its heading or Its named “contents”

Another convention my magazine uses is the feature number/feature with brief underneath information of the feature in separate boxes so that they can be placed neatly and easily noticed so the reader could select a feature there interested in.

A convention usually only in magazines aimed at the upper/middle class where the pictures are columned and linked with the features to the side.

This part of the column is not a regular convention as I'm trying to challenge the conventions of the music magazine industry through a monthly band competition where bands will send a demo inAnd who ever wins will have the cd put onto a special edition of the magazine as a free give-away. t

In what ways does your media product use, develop,or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?(double page)

One convention of music magazines aimed at the older aged males in the middle Social class and that of a social status a/b is that they usually make the writing smallAnd compact so the reader gets more information since there of the older age and Like articles they tend to read it over a long period of time for leisure.

Another type of convention that are aimed at he older aged males in the middle social class and that of a social status a/b is that they tend to use pull quotes through out the article.

Another convention of magazine relevant to the first point is that these type of Magazines usually word the text around the images/pictures to make less white space on the page and more reading material.

And some other conventions consist of a Bold heading with a different font size/style to the text that is usually under a picture relevant To the article e.g. if article is the about the Beatles or a member usually you would have a picture/imageof the ‘interviewee’ or the band manager or Of the whole band on stage or doing a stance .

And another convention for articles in general in music magazines is that they are usually Presented as columns equal in length/width and goes to the end of the page with a page Number being placed down a bit and centred.

Page 6: Evaluation on rock exp ( music magazine)

Similar magazine’s with the same conventions.

Exclusive interview is easily seen and big/bold

The Beatles title is big as they are world known

and the issue is involving them

The other band members of the Beatles

are behind and are smaller then Paul

McCartney as they are relevant but not as

important

The magazine title is partly covered by Paul

McCartney as the magazine is focused at a niche audience that will

recognise is even with the title partly covered.

The barcode is with the issue no and date and

cost

How does your media product represent particular social groups? My magazine represents particular social groups as the older aged middle class by having bands from

the 60’s/70’s put in the magazine which was considered the time of the “classics” an example of this is the “Beatles” which is

currently not really listened to by the new generation since they never had the phase of ‘Beatle-mania’ which was where fans would

get so crazed they often push and chase the Beatles because it was like the Beatles were selling love in a song.

The youth love the Beatles as it gives them there own music

section in the world as before there times they were like mini

adults.

Girl Beatle fans so crazed police officer has to hold them off

before the Beatles comes or the Beatles just might get hurt.

What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?

Well the media institute known as Bauer have a magazine called Mojo which focuses on a similar genre of “rock” also they

Own a source of cross media promotion leading to cross media promoting by tv,radio and magazine which means they can

promote each others median with a less cost for promoting.

Another reason is that they are good at attracting and getting out to their audience by the areas of distributions, as they

have many niche audience and focus and learn on their audience and do test run to see how there audience re-acts to new

magazine from there distributor.

Also some sights might want buy a online upload of the magazine issues holding classic rock bands or having exclusive

information on them or have interviewed them but with different questions compared to old interviews to hold issues on

their sight such as ‘classic rock sights’ or sights that have classic rock up to date information.

Who would be your audience?

Well my audience could be of two different types of ‘pop rock fanatics’ or ‘people who lived in the times of the Beatles and other

similar bands’ and richer middle class men in social status a/b that would be interested in ‘classics’.

Well the ‘pop rock fanatics’ would be well of the age of say between 11-23 as that's the age people select their type of music and

Search for all the best within that music type such as if they were heavy metal they would look for ‘Metallica’ but if they choose

pop rock they would probably find bands as ‘The Beatles’ everywhere and fantasies about there music and learn all their song

lyrics off by heart.

The people who lived in the Beatle times would nearly be 90% a fan but not a fanatic and would usually buy magazine with issues

to do with any Beatle member or as a whole.

Also the richer upper class males in a/b social status tend to be interested in the classics as their social class/status makes them

have to live up to other peoples expectation which means they would near definitely buy a issue to do with the Beatles as they

still stand as the band that had most number 1 hits and there still in the most 100 influential people in the world recorded.

Page 10: Evaluation on rock exp ( music magazine)

How did you attract/address your audience?Well I asked my model to make sure there eyes stare forward which will make them have eye contact

with the magazines targeted audience(attracting them by making them feel on the same wavelength).

I have also made the models wear casual suits similar to what bands would wear in the 1960’s e.g. The Beatles

I have made sure the layout of the page makes the features easy to see and for the genre of the magazine easily understood.

I have made this a monthly edition as my magazine gives a CD away free with it a which will attract the audience by getting

something extra when they buy the same original magazine and also a chance to listen to a classic song of the Beatles.

Well the picture of the Beatles and a rock band shown on the front cover of each issue will attract my audience by showing them

A ‘classic’ rock band that will inspire then to remember others and to buy the magazine as it has a band that could be on of their

favourites, also it could be the ‘Beatles’ as the most influential rock band of all time and basically created the sensation of classic

rock being shown on the front cover as the main feature.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Well I have learnt how to use search engine’s (Google, bing, yahoo, ask Jeevees) to find relevant information for my magazine such

as facts about the Beatles while doing my article., Also I found out that you have to be precise about the words you select while

searching or you’ll have too much of a wide range of irrelevant information, Such as if your searching for a specific rock band you

shouldn’t type “Rock Bands” you should type the genre of rock such as “Indie” or “Pop” or “Heavy metal”.

Another type of thing I learned was how to select specific pages from the search engine by the paragraph under the URL telling

you what kind of things are on it which can save a lot of time.

From the information collected from these websites I learned how to store them and manipulate it into my own words by using

“Microsoft Word Processor” which is a application that you can type different fonts/sizes and make basic letters etc,Also it was

helpful when taking notes to how to make my magazine more effective and detailed and accessible to my market.

Another thing I learned was how to take pictures from a camera using ,focus, portrait and landscape and to get a medium shot, a

medium close up and a long shot. This was helpful as I was able to take pictures more effectively for my own uses in the magazine

without getting a photographer and telling them how to take it.

From the camera I learned how to upload pictures from a camera into a file, which could stored for further use.

Page 12: Evaluation on rock exp ( music magazine)

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

After using the Microsoft word processor for the withholding of my information I went onto Adobe Photoshop CS4 to Load my images where I can change Pixels to make the picture look better, such as using Crop to make it smaller, rotate to change the images to the angle i desire for further use in the magazine and to make it look for effective and the “Quick selection tool” to remove the big background bits” and the “Lasso” Tool to remove the background next to the image and bits that are between

the persons fingers//armpit when they change there standing styles. Also once the image had all the background removed I used

the “Rubber tool” to remove the lines and smudges and bended parts of the image to make it look better.

Also from Photoshop I learned how to save it in different formats such as ‘Gif,photoshop, jpeg and various others’ which I usedwith my Magazine where I saved each copy in three styles ‘gift, photoshop’jpeg’ to use in different way as uploading them to Use in other application’s.

I also learned how to use indesign which is a professional application used for magazine typing since it uses Photoshop to manipulate pictures for styles/angles and then save them as a gif to be placed into indesign by the tool when you click ‘file’ Place then you search for the gif file and click it once loaded you can move the picture around with the way you want it with

only the picture showing and no background interrupting the surrounding words if background removed. Also I learned how to copy material from indesign to such applications as Microsoft word processor and Microsoft PowerPoint (which is being currently

used) And I used the copy function from indesign to this very PowerPoint presentation on page two/three.

Also I learned how use such things on Microsoft PowerPoint as to change the background called “Background” found in ‘Design’.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From the Preliminary task I originally I had little understand of technologies/the media at that stage except the basics

however while progressing from the preliminary task to my full product I learnt how structure my magazine more

professionally and use certain conventions involving the music magazine industry and other similar magazines with the

same genre of music.

And at the time of the Preliminary task I didn’t take it so serious however after I completed it and found out all my

mistakes and realized how hard it was so I took it serious and researched the mediums of certain music distributors, and

how they target their audience through certain layouts/conventions that would attract the audience into their magazine.

The technologies I learned from the Preliminary task I either learned them into more depth or used them with other

different technologies to make the end magazine more detailed and professional.
