groups?

EllaElla’s character is a ghost schoolgirl. The dress, hair band, doll etc all suggest a traditional representation of a young girl. On the other hand our girl is the antagonist. Normally the antagonist is a big male character or a monster but having a young girl in the role makes the film different and adds a different aspect to it.

Characters

SiobhanSiobhan's character is a teacher. This represents her as a modern woman as she is working, yet it also has a traditional element because of her profession. She is very glamorous but smart. The hair and the make up would normally suggest a traditional woman, but the business clothes and the job contradicts this and she in fact is a modern day representation. Also she is wearing a red dress, the colour red connotes blood/danger.

MartinMy character is a security guard. From the clothes to the hair the whole appearance represents a traditional male. The job itself is a job shows my character is hard working and strong. This again is a traditional male representation.

SituationsThis scene shows Siobhan's character at work. This is a very modern shot because she is working hard and concentrating on her work. This is a modern representation of woman. The lighting suggests it is late because of the lack of natural light. This connotes she is working out of hours and takes her job seriously. Again this is a traditional representation.

On the other hand this high angle shot shows a sense of vulnerability. Combined with the lighting this scene connotes something may happen to her. This is a very traditional representation of female characters in horror films.

In this scene the traditional male role becomes untraditional. Although the job is very traditional the lack of awareness suggests he is not bothered about his job. This represents a traditional male “slob”. Also the character positioning is very important in this scene. Traditionally men have more power over woman and children, but in this scene the young girl is positioned higher than the security guard. This shows that she is in power not him. Once again this is a modern representation.

Throughout the film we use positioning to show the contrast in power. When Ella’s character murders Siobhan’s (Left) she stands over her. This shows she has the most power. This is also a modern representation.
