Q1-In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products? My magazine develops forms and conventions of real media products. These are conventions such as: Large mid-shot image, Columns, Main image, Left-hand side third, Images, varied font, Cover Lines, Captions, Page Numbers, Color scheme, Name of magazine, Date, price, barcode, Website, Features, text boxes, Masthead, Color scheme. I used Kerrang magazine as a template for me to create my own front cover, contents page and double page spread. By using Kerrang magazine as a template I was able to have an idea of how my magazine was going to look. I reproduced some of kerranges codes and conventions but in my own style and way, I like the colour scheme so I kept that in my magazine as well as the style of the mast head. Overall the codes and conventions I used were based around kerranges magazine cover that I chose.

This is the Kerrang magazine cover I used as a

template!

Q2-How does your media product represent particular

social groups? My media product represent particular social groups who listen to alternative rock, punk and metal music genre, this is because my Media product covers that sort of genre. It does this by the style and the content of the magazine. The style is a kind of broken and smashed up style, you can see this is certain sections of the cover page. For example my title has cracks running through it that make it look liked its smashed, here's an example . The content of the magazine also represents the particular social group of people who listen to alternative rock, punk and metal music genre, this is because my content consists of bands who are within that certasin music genre, for example bring me the horizon. I have also created a double page spread about ‘a rock chick called Angie’ which fits in with this particular genre.

Q3-What kind of media institution might distribute

your media product and why?

• Bauer media group, I think this because it produces a similar music magazine that I was copying which is KERRANG!. As well as kerrnage. Bauer also produce other magazines that fit into the genre of the magazine I have chosen to produce. Bauer is a big company which produce many magazines. The produce over 300 magazines which mean there are a selection of genres for many different audiences. My magazine would fit into this institution as it is a magazine which could have a larger range of distribution methods, for example website, apps and television stations.

Q4-Who would be the audience for your media product?

My audience would be men and women, ages 15-30, who enjoy the music genre of alternative rock, punk and metal music. I attracted/addressed my audience by researching the KERRANG audience, this helped me because I’m making my magazine similar to KERRANG. This means that my audience for my magazine would be from a similar area of age and sexuality. Also my audience would be around this sort of gender and age because it’s a rock/metal magazine and this is a multi-gender genre of music. The age range shows that they buy the magazine for its content of music and popular bands from a young age range themselves. Also the picture on the front would attract this audience as it shows a rock chic called Angie who's style of music is rock/metal genre.

Q5-What have you learnt about technologies from the process of

constructing this product?

• I’ve learnt that the use of technology from the process of constructing this product has a lot of different techniques and skills to make something that looks so simple to make. I also learnt that the process of making a magazine comes from learning how to use programs such as Photoshop and InDesign. These programs are hard to work from but helped me to make an effective well made magazine. When using these programs you have to learn as you go if you don’t do this then you will not have an effective product that you were hoping to make.

Q6- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have

learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have learnt that there is a lot more editing and time put into making something such as a magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread. Also there are specific soft-wares, techniques and skills that have to be used to complete them. The difference between my preliminary task and my coursework construction is that with my preliminary task I didn't spend as much time as I have on my coursework. Also when creating my preliminary task I used the software word but with my coursework I have used many techniques that I have learnt along the way and a more technical software called Photoshop.
