In what ways does your music magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real music magazines?

My music magazine’s front cover (as you can see on the next slide) is laid out in a conventional way, with the main image in the centre with the artist looking into the camera. My taglines and main tagline are laid out in a conventional way with the main tagline over lapping the picture at the bottom. I also added other conventional features like a barcode and website address. Despite other magazines using a reversed out black and white text to make text stand out, I used bright colours on a dull and dark background to make them stand out and also making the front cover look vibrant. My contents page uses the same features as I saw on similar products by using images as well as text. I also develop the idea of using images to link to the pages to illustrate what the pages are about, I my magazine. Conventional to most magazine I used the same colour scheme from my front cover to my contents page. Again, the fact that I used a bright colour for the text challenged the conventional reversed out black and white text.

My Double page spread, some what challenges the conventions of the double page spreads that I analysis, although it has images heading and text, it has an irregular layout. As you can see, other double page spreads are dominated by big headings and a dominating photo; Whereas I used a small and simple heading and smaller photos as I wanted my magazine to come across as having detailed articles. I also wanted to add three photos compared to the conventional one big image, to give more detail about the artist before my audience reads the article.

How does your music magazine represent particular social groups? My social group is teenagers that are stylish, into music and particularly R’n’B, Hip Hop, interested in the media and celebrities and love to socialised, gossip and party. After completing ‘Find your tribe’ I included the tribe ‘Smart Urban’ in my social group as I fell under this category.

My colour scheme represents my social group, as its bright lights represent their lively and partying lifestyle, as neon colours are the lights found in many clubs. The images of musical notes and the name ‘Lyric’ has a strong link to music and therefore represent my social group through their interest in music. By using a rhectorical question as the tagline represent my social group as they like to gossip and theerefore ask questions to find out the latest news.

What kind of media institution may distribute your magazine and why?

From the media institutions I researched, including, IPC media, Bauer and Future PLC which all had a genre of predominately ‘Rock’.Firstly, Although my Magazine is specialised in its genre, ‘Future PLC’ is an institution with a very specialised magazine range, with most of them being about guitars. Therefore I do not think that Future PLC would distribute my magazine, as it is too much out of there comfort zone.

I also don't believe that Bauer media group will distribute my magazine as not only are the magazine that they already publish a different genre, but also they have 2 really successful magazines, and there isn’t a gap for mine.

Therefore, I feel that my magazine could possibly be distributed by IPC media as they only have one music magazine, NME, out of 60. This means that IPC may feel that they want to branch out in the music magazine industry and also branch out into another genre, which will hopefully will complement the existing magazine.

Who would be the audience for your music magazine?

After research into audiences through my questionnaire and ‘Find your Tribe’. My audience will fall under the tribe of ‘Smart Urban’ this is because I was in that tribe, and as the designer it should be easy to attract this audience.

I want my magazine to attract a big audience, for decide the type of audience I wanted to attract I looked at the results of my questionnaire. By looking at this I hope to be attracting the audience who likes the music genre ‘RnB’, as this was popular. My audience will also be teenagers. My audience will be modern, in that they will download music rather than buy CD’s. They will like artists such as, Usher, Ne-Yo, Bruno Mars, Trey Songz,, Tinnie Tempah, Rihanna, Pixie Lott, Plan B. My audience will possibly be predominately Male.

I attract my youthful and modern audience through my lively, neon colour scheme, my font choice and the graphics I use.

By looking at my questionnaire, my detailed articles into artists and original photography will attract my audience who want to find out about their favourite artists.
