Evaluation 4; How did you use media technologies in the

construction and research, planning and evaluation

stages?

Technologies used…

Premier Pro CS3;• We used Premier Pro

CS3 to create our film trailer. We found this programme slightly better than the version we used last year.

• It enabled us to add video clips, razor them to the length we wanted, edit the lighting, add transitions, add music and razor it and change the colour balance.

Sanyo Xacti camera;• This is the camera which we

borrowed from the school in order to film our trailer clips.

• This camera is quite small and easy to use.

• It produces good footage and picks up sound well.

• We used this camera over the period of a few weeks so that we could get all the footage that we wanted.

• We used the same camera for our AS project, so we were already familiar with how to use this camera.

Fuji film finepix digital SLR; • This is the camera that we

used for both the poster photo shoot and the magazine photo shoot.

• This camera produced very good images for us to create an effective magazine cover and a poster.

• We changed the settings on this camera to achieve the right effect for our images.

• We used a double picture setting where it took one picture with the flash and one with out straight after, this gave a range of different images and lighting.

Photo Scape; • This is the software which we

downloaded in order to edit the main images for our magazine cover and poster.

• This was very useful software, after we used it once or twice it was very easy and simple to use and created very effective images.

• We could add extra pictures onto here enabling us to add the text, logo’s and age certificate etc.

• There was a wide range editing tools to choose from on this software, but we realised that if we altered it too much, the image became unclear and pixelated.

Poster forge;• This is another piece of

software which we decided to download, but we did not use it for a final poster in the end.

• This programme is specifically designed for creating posters, leading us to believe that it would be a better option for creating our poster.

• We were limited to where we could position the text and the main image, making us use photo scape instead.

Windows movie maker;• We used windows movie maker

so that we could add the title pages into our film trailer.

• I also used this programme to create a short slide show to demonstrate the music we chose for our trailer onto my blog.

• This made it possible for us to use the red smoke effect we wanted and add the writing over the top for our trailer.

• This programme also allowed us to add effects to the titles to make it more dramatic and effective to make the titles stand out.

Any video converter;• We had to download this

software so that we could convert our video files for them to be able to open on Premier Pro.

• This came in useful later on in our project also as the music file we downloaded also needed to be converted.

• Using this software we converted our files to WMV files, as these files work on Premier Pro CS3.

Real player and YouTube;• We used real player to

download videos off of YouTube and onto the computer, this then meant that we could put these files either into ‘Any video converter’ and then onto Premier Pro or just to put straight onto our blogs.

• This came in useful when we needed to put these videos onto our blogs or in Premier Pro.

• Real player and YouTube worked as a combined piece of technology.

Paint;

• We used paint for a number of things during our project process.

• I used paint to crop images to put onto my blog.

• We used paint to edit the text for the title for our magazine cover and poster, it enabled us to get the exact font, size and spacing we wanted for our ancillary projects.

iphone and mac laptop;• We used the iphone to take

pictures for evidence, pictures of us doing the filming process and the photo shoots.

• This was useful to put evidence onto our blogs of what we did and how.

• We had to use a mac laptop to put the trailer onto a disc, this is because we could not get it to work on the laptop we were using, the mac laptop was much more successful and managed to put our trailer onto a disc to work on a computer and a DVD player.
