David Buckingham argues that ‘genre is not simply “given” by the culture: rather, it is in a constant progress of negotiation and change’. We developed the conventions of the Glam Rock, which would originally use glittery clothes, over the top make-up, and hair. We however, decided to use modernized clothing and go with skinny jeans and leather jackets, as it appeals more to a modern audience, but is still glam rock enough to be conventional enough for people who like the older style of glam rock.

- Discuss how you challenged typical conventions of music videos within your chosen genre. Did you attempt to include other elements to make

your product stand out from the rest?

We have challenged the typical conventions of music videos, as our narrative is different; we don’t have the usual themes such as drugs, partying and a cool car. Our video is focuses on the lead singer who becomes the love interest of a female whose feelings gradually grow throughout the duration of the song, with sections matching the lyrics. Although this comes across as a typical romance, with them getting together in the end, it is revealed at the end of the song that his affections lie else where, more specifically his male band member. Again this challenges our genre as Glam Rock typically has little narrative whereas ours contains enough to have a bit of a literal interpretation, while still being upbeat and random enough to fit in with the genre.
