Curriculum Teacher could use during downtime or as a bell ringer activity.

PASS/FAIL PASS

The Word Search app is a great app to use as a bell work activity. It would be a fun way to start the day. When you open the app you have several different choices of word search types. (ex. Animals, body, buildings,

capital cities) This app is easy to use and colorful. Each word is highlighted in a different color once it is found on the word search, according to how

many points are awarded for the specific word.

We both enjoyed using this app. It was very easy to navigate and learn. It had very few sounds, but the ones it had were not distracting or annoying. The screens were appealing and words were highlighted once found. This app did not have as much educational focus as some of the others we reviewed but we felt that it could be used as a bell work activity to get the day

started out. We would recommend using this app.

Curriculum This app would be good as a graphic organizer if it worked. PASS/FAIL FAIL

The Total Recall app would be a great tool to use in the classroom if it worked properly. When you first open the app you will see a very large graphic organizer with different colors on each bubble. We tried several

times to make changes to it but were unable to so we had to delete the “get started” file before we could add information. When we created the new

file, it would not allow us to add any bubbles to the organizer. After a while it let us add bubbles and we could change the colors of them, but were

unable to connect any of them. The idea behind this app is great. It just needs some improvements to make it more user friendly and the errors in

the app need to be corrected.

This was the worst app that we evaluated. We were excited about it when we first opened it up and noticed it would be a great graphic organizer. Our impression of the app quickly diminished when we could not get it to work properly. We had to delete things to try to get it to work and when we

were finally able to create some information we never could get it to work properly. The thought of an app that could be used as a graphic organizer is genius, but it would not be with Total Recall. We would not recommend this

app for use.

The Take it Easy app is a very interesting and a great puzzle game. It has the option for local or online multiplayer. It is easy to use and it would be easy to get hooked on playing this game. When you open the app it has

several different color bars on a tile going in several different ways with numbers on each bar. The object of the game is to match up as many bars

in as many directions as you can to get the maximum amount of points.

This app is easy to navigate and use. It would be easy to get obsessed with playing it and trying to beat your previous score. We both got caught up in trying to get the puzzle pieces together when we evaluated this app. It is very colorful and fun to use. It does not have any educational qualities for learning specific classroom information but it does make the user dig deep into their problem-solving abilities. We both enjoyed using this app, but

would not recommend it for the classroom

Curriculum Could be used with the teacher’s guidance. PASS/FAIL FAIL

Study Blue is an application used to help students use to create flash cards of a certain subject. You will create an account access Study Blue, this way all the information you create is always saved and can continuously be accessed through the app on any computer, iPad, or iPhone. Teachers can create a set of flash cards specific for their class to meet their certain needs. Teachers could use this as an assessment by having students create a set of notecards over the section or chapter that has just been covered. Students can also search through specific subjects to find help that has already been created by others. This is a Study Tool that could be used across the board by students and teachers. Honestly, neither of us really enjoyed using Study Blue. We couldn’t start using it without creating an account that now constantly sends one of us emails. The program did not work effectively and would not meet the needs of our students. It was difficult to navigate and from experience if something is difficult to navigate the student is less likely to use it often. It was very organized once you got to where you needed and things could be saved and used over and over, which is nice. To be a study program it was quiet and the colors weren’t very loud so students could concentrate. We would not recommend this for the classroom.

Curriculum This app would be very easy to implement in curriculum being taught in the language arts classroom.

PASS/FAIL PASS

The Story Creator app is a very simple and easy app that can be used in any classroom setting that allows the student to tell a story. It doesn’t have a

lot of bells and whistles which makes it very easy to navigate and use. When you open the app it has a picture of the cover of a book. The next page is where you start your book. You have options on each page to add pictures, audio, or add text. Once you completed all your pages it is easy to save

your book. You also have options to share through email. This app would be great for younger children or children who have not been exposed to

technology at home, since it is very easy to navigate. We both liked and enjoyed using this app.

The Story Creator app looked very simple and plain when we first opened it. We were a little unsure about it until we realized what you could actually do with it. This app would be great for younger children or children who do not have access to technology at home, due to its simple nature. It could be

used in any classroom where the student would need to create a story. Most likely it would be used in a language arts or social studies class. Although, it could be used in any classroom as an ice breaker. Each student could create story introducing themselves to each other and share with all the class. We

both liked this app and would recommend for use in the classroom.

Skip Bo is the card game that your kids of the twenty-first century are looking for. While targeting the upper elementary students, the game opens up with bright colors as well as bold features. The game has interactive music and congratulates students when they are accomplishing. Skip Bo has the perfect movement to enhance sensory learning. Use this with your younger students who are learning to count. When a number is placed on top of another incorrectly, the card moves back to the stack. Your student can learn while having fun interacting with other students or by themselves. Skp Bo was very bright and colorful. The game was very interactive however the directions were not very elaborate. The game gave a short tutorial but it was slightly difficult for us to figure out how to use it. The game would be very beneficial in a younger classroom with children working on fine motor skills but would need to be explained very well. We did not like the game for the classroom but Stephanie enjoyed the game just for fun.

Need an app that helps students study more effectively? Quizlet is your answer. Quizlet helps students create notecards, keeps them organized, and they are legible. Quizlet also has the choice for students to select subjects and find notecards that have already been made. This is a great tool for assessment as well. Have students create a set of notecards for a vocabulary assignment and they can also use it to study with. It is a great two-in-one. Both of us really enjoyed this application. The application would be a good study tool for the classroom for the fact that students can create their own flash cards for an assessment but also use it as a tool to study for tests. Students can also access other flash cards that have been made from other students. You do have to create an account for application but this allows you to access everything you have created. It is definitely a good and beneficial tool for the classroom.

This is a great app to use for language arts teachers. When you first open

the app you will be asked to enter different nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives. Once you have entered all the information, the app will produce a crazy story with the information you provided. This is a great way for the

students to be able to demonstrate previous information that has been learned in the classroom. It also lightens the mood of constant lecture and brings a fun way to go over information. There are several different types of Mad Lib apps that you can download depending on your classroom needs.

We both agreed that this was one of the best apps we reviewed. It was easy to use and navigate. The sounds were used effectively and not

distracting. It is very colorful and the suspense of what you are going to create makes it even better. This app would be best in language arts or a social studies classroom where students create stories, but could be used in any classroom. We would recommend this app. It was Stephanie’s favorite.

Target Age Middle School with an introduction on how to use first Type Tools

Curriculum Would be great for note taking in the middle school and above classrooms.

PASS/FAIL PASS Imagine a student never being able to say “I lost my notes” or “I can’t read what I wrote” ever again. With apps like Note Taker that is soon becoming a reality. Students can open up Note Taker and take notes for as long as their little hear desires. If the teacher makes a comment that something she just said is important, the student can highlight, change colors, or even bold what she told them to write down. Students can save their notes from day to day and pick up right where they left off. If a teacher were to assign a PowerPoint, students have the ability to insert that PowerPoint into Note Taker and make notes on it. Note Taker was very fun and interesting to both of us. This could be used in the classroom for students to take notes without having to waste paper. If all students used this program then the teacher would not have to worry or struggle with the idea of constantly trying to help or figure out what a student needs when it comes to taking notes. The navigation was very easy and we believe that it could even be used as low as your early middle level students. It is very colorful, fun, and easy to use.

All middle school students’ love posting on social media as well as editing their pictures. Kwote is a way for students to enhance their pictures they are posting. With the features of being able to edit the colors, being able to crop, as well as adding quotes your students are going to love this. Have a student making an advertisement in class for a certain issue, they can use Kwote to enhance the image they are using. Kwote in our thoughts was more of a fun application for students to use outside of the classroom. Kwote was more of an app that can vamp up pictures rather than teaching students something. There wasn’t much of a learning aspect to it. It cold possibly be used in the classroom as bonus. For instance if the students are creating a book or poster, they could use Kwote to enhance their image. We did enjoy using it but decided it would probably be a distraction in the classroom.

Imagine being a teacher in a rural school district that does not receive much funding for outside learning. Students mainly come to class, work out of a book, and nothing more is given to enhance their learning. Now imagine the school has a grant for a few classroom iPads and your are in your science classroom looking for things to teach. Frog Dissection would be the perfect hands on game for students in this situation. You can open the app, learn about the life cycle of a frog, how a lab works, lab safety features, and dissect frogs. This app is colorful and very life like. There is no mess and no clean up with this app. Students are able to learn about the different tools without there being a safety hazard. Hands on learning without the expensive cost and clean up. We were very impressed with this software. Even with a cost, the application is well worth it. With both of us living in rural area schools, this would be very beneficial to the science classroom. There was not much negativity to this application except students should learn lab procedures first. If the app is going to be treated like a real experiment, students should learn the process and procedure like a real experiment. The app is highly recommended.

Target Age Upper Middle School, High School, College Level Type Drill and Practice, Tutorial, Simulation

Curriculum Teacher could use during presentation of a lesson or could be used as a study tool.

PASS/FAIL PASS

Brain Tutor is a great app to use during instruction to show specific parts of the brain. When you open the app it has four different view of the brain that you can choose. It has an atlas on the left that will let you choose Lobes, Gyri, Sulci, Brodmann Areas, Subcortical Areas, Functional Areas,

and Fiber Tracts. Once you select an area you will have additional information that is available with an information icon to the right. You can

choose the information icon to give you a full description of the area selected. This app has each area color coded which makes it very easy to

see and understand.

We both loved the Brain Tutor app. It was very easy to navigate to each desired area. There were no sounds effects, but we did not feel that it

needed any. This app would be used more as a reference, educational, and study tool. It showed each area of the brain in 3D, and you had the option to move in 360 degrees. Each section has its own information tab with a detailed description of that area. This app could be used in any science

classroom to aid with instruction or as a study tool. We both would recommend this app to be used in the classroom setting.
