    The 2016 Eurovision Cliché Awards:

Eurovision provides the opportunity for a country to present a singer and a song in the hopes of winning. Each year

The War is Naughty award is presented to the song that explains war is naughty and we should just stop it.

First Semi-Final:Country in order of appearance:

    Finland – SF1

    Artist: Sandhja

Song: Sing it away (English) Sing it away - Finland

Kicking off Eurovision this year is Sandhja who is a self-taught singer and songwriter of Finnish and Indian descent.

After last year’s entry Finland has decided to return to the competition with a song that people can actually

understand and even enjoy, from a performer who does not require assistance animals to buy groceries. Aerobics

instructors around the world will be downloading this song in droves as it’s a fun brainless upbeat song that rates an

enjoyable six on the toe tapping scale. Burn away the calories doing housework or exercising to this song and you

will be inspired to be a slightly better person. Sandhja usually performs with the same dancers and her posse will

probably be with her on stage in a show of “girl power” but let’s face it, they are just there for the exposure and free

mints. A good fun song that should prove to be a crowd pleaser and a great way to start off Eurovision 2016.Return to Index

    Greece: - SF1

    Artist : Argo

Song: Utopian Land (Greek and English)  Utopian Land - Greece

Argo is a group of friends who came together from their common enjoyment of making music with traditional Greek

instruments. All members have a strong interest in Greek folklore and history and used this as inspiration in

developing this year’s entry. Just when you thought there was no way to combine hip-hop and folklore along comes

Argo to prove you almost wrong. While you can retreat to the chorus for some comfort, the ethnic guilt trip that

makes up the rest of the song detracts from the total enjoyment. Not a bad song, a strong beat provides a

respectable four on the toe tapping scale, but can you Kalamatianos (circle dance) to it? This is the sort ofbackground music you want when looking at your credit card statement and realise you are living beyond your

means and need something to help maintain your denial. Enjoy this song, it’s not without its charms but you won’t

be visiting the utopian land too often.Return to Index

    Moldova – SF1

    Artist: Lidia Isac

Song: Falling Stars (English) Falling Stars - Moldova

Russian born Lidia has made a few attempts at Moldova’s national selection on her quest to perform at Eurovision

and finally her dream has come true. I would think that she would be more prepared considering she’s been at this

for a while. To say this song lacks any soul or substance would be an understatement. You could soak this song in

rhythm and blues for a year and it would still come out pastel. No amount of tarragon, garlic, lemon and paprika can

save this lukewarm limp celery from the bin. Lidia sings this mindless medium paced ballad as though she has

already won the competition, but let’s be honest, it is just noise wrapped in toilet paper. This song has all the

sincerity of a checkout operator asking how your day was and you decide to debrief with them long after you should

have collected your bags and left. The lyrics have no real value so don’t try to understand if there is any hidden

meaning to them. Yes you can swing and sway to this song, but would you want your friends to see you? Let’s all just

be grateful the song is only three minutes long.Return to Index

    Hungary – SF1

    Artist : Freddie

Song: Pioneer (English) Pioneer - Hungary

Commencing his music career in 2014 and now barely a year later Freddie is representing Hungary at Eurovision. His

sudden rise to success has everything to do with talent and nothing to do with his good looks at all, so le t’s not

mention them again. If you were a three pack a day Winfield Red smoker, you still couldn’t achieve Freddie’s gravelly

voice. After suffering an injury that brought his basketball career to a sudden end, he turned to singing. I won’t be

surprised if he makes it to the finals even though his song is rather lack-lustre. If he does make it through to the

grand final, it will in no way have anything to do with his stage presence or how attractive he is, there will be no

favouritism at all. Freddie states that his song is about the struggles we all go through day to day and that the

answers lie deep within us. Yes, very profound but I have listened to this song a dozen times and can’t find anything

that connects the lyrics with that sentiment or his perfectly sculptured three day growth. Good on you Freddie,

whether it be your good looks or the insincere psychobabble lyrics that get you through, the important thing is that

you made it based solely on talent, urgh I just rolled my eyes so hard I just saw my brain. Return to Index

    Croatia – SF1

    Artist: Nina Kraljić

Song: Lighthouse (English) Lighthouse - Croatia

Welcome back Croatia after their two year break from the competition. Too bad they didn’t use that time to come

up with something better than this toilet back flow. Nina states that representing Croatia is a childhood dream come

true, I am guessing she had a pretty traumatic childhood. I should try and say something nice about this, umm OK if

Enya was having her toenails ripped out, this is the sound I think she would make. Seriously Croatia, this is why you

keep getting molested at Eurovision. I don’t contain enough insults to truly explain this limping donkey of a song. The

lyrics are just so trite, three month old bread has more freshness. Nina’s singing is so saccharine you c an sweetenyour coffee with it. It’s not completely without its charms but you won’t miss it once it’s over. Expect to check your

phone during this performance, only to look up halfway through and think “is she still going?” I think this song meets

the dictionary definition of entertainment, but I don’t know if I would want to fall back on  that technicality if I

wanted to win Eurovision.Return to Index

    The Netherlands – SF1

Artist : Douwe BobSong : Slow down (English) Slow down - The Netherlands

Finally a song worth writing about. I am a big fan of this song and I hope many other people will be too. The

Netherlands frequently has entries that perform in a style unexpected from a European country. The first time I

heard this song, I thought it belonged in the deep south of the USA; closer to home it definitely has a touch of Paul

Kelly to it. Douwe singing will be a refreshing break between mind boring ballads. There is also a great chemistry

between Douwe and his band as they deliver a wonderful beat to his performance. Douwe states that this is a

protest song against the demands society places on people. He wants everyone to slow down and appreciate what’s

really important, how sweet, I guess nobody has told him we are all losing our jobs to robots. Anyway, the song is

enjoyable and scores a happy five on the toe tapping scale. Good luck Douwe I hope to see The Netherlands in the

grand final, giving Russia a run for their Ruble. Return to Index

    Armenia – SF1

Artist: Iveta Mukuchyan Winner – SGSS award

Song: LoveWave (English) LoveWave - Armenia

Iveta is a singer, song writer, actress and model and this year represents Armenia with LoveWave. Like most of these

medium paced ballads, this song sounds manufactured with too much emphasis singing elongated vowels causing

whales in the North Atlantic to change direction and head towards land-locked Armenia. Iveta tries to bring a sense

of mystery and depth to this song, but misses the mark and ends up delivering the type of music that you would

expect to hear in “Paleo Diet  – the musical”. This song will inspire you to suffer a major head injury in the hopes of

forgetting you ever encountered it. There should be a sugar tax on this song, actually this song is so trite it’s more

artificial sweetener than real sugar. Not all is lost for Amenia, as they have won this year’s famous “Slutty Girl singing

a Slutty Song” award.Return to Index

    San Marino – SF1

Artist : Serhat Winner of the WTF award

    Song : I didn’t know (English)  I didn't know - San Marino

I wasn’t sure if this was a serious entry from San Marino or if they were trying to recreate a Benny Hill style song and

dance number. This is straight out of a 70’s TV variety performance show. San Marino you have embarrassed

yourselves, was there really no one else available? If Parliamentary Question Time was a song, this would be it.

Serhat tries to be seductive, but it feels more like he is hiding behind a bush with a long overcoat. This is the music

you listen to when your ear drums have burst and you don’t want to put any pressure on them. I could go on, but

things are just going to get nasty. Be warned there is a hypnotic effect when listening to this song and it may make

its way into your sub-conscious  – be prepared. Really the lyrics are rubbish, the signing is heinous and the whole

thing is a great big bucket of failure. You’re 40 years too late to enter this one into Eurovision. Take your

multicultural ensemble of disaster and get the hell out.Return to Index

    Russia – SF1

    Artist : Sergey Lazarev

Song : You are the only one (English) You are the only one - Russia

Hold on to your Bolsheviks people, Russia is about to Lenin the hell out of Stockholm this year. Russia has been

yearning to win Eurovision for a while and is usually quite a sore loser when they don’t. They have come close over

the last few years and last year came second. After carefully analysing last year’s winner, they have created their

own version of “Heros” so don’t be surprised if they take home the Crystal (glass) Microphone this year. Sergey will

be collecting serious votes so expect to see this one in the grand final. I can’t wait to see how they combine the stage

theatrics with this song’s strong and enjoyable seven on the toe-tapping scale. Considering this song is following the

misery of San Marino, it will be like enjoying a five course meal after a decade of Turkish prison food. Sergey is

currently the favourite to win this year and I think the odds are right. Sergey’s performance is powerful, the song is

enjoyable and it should appeal to most of the Eurovision audience including the gays, which the Russians need to

convince if they want to win, so they can ban them from attending next year. Enjoy, it’s a great song. Return to Index

    Czech Republic – SF1

    Artist – Gabriela Gunčíková

Song : I Stand (English) I Stand - Czech Republic

Gabriela comes to Eurovision this year with her song “I Stand ”. Gabriela states that she wants to create music to

inspire people. Clearly she is talking about her future self, because the only thing she has inspired me to do is write

this toxic critique of her song. How should I frame this, “I Stand ” is the musical equivalent of the Vegan who has totell everyone that they are Vegan even though nobody asked, cares or were even in earshot. Gabriela honey, if you

need therapy then go seek it, but don’t bring your emotional B .S to Eurovision. I am really sorry that someone or

something in your past did you wrong but this isn’t the forum for it. But don’t go home empty handed you have

lovely skin, teeth and hair. There you go, not a total waste, unlike this song which is a complete waste of three

    Artist : Minus One

Song: Alter Ego (English) Alter Ego - Cyprus

Although starting as a cover band, Minus One has always added their own influence to the songs they played. A very

strong chemistry exists between band members and provides an enjoyable experience that leaves me with a sense

of relief from all the slow and medium paced ballads in this competition. I can’t tell if I like this song or if I like the

fact that there is some strength and power behind it. I really hope this one makes it to the grand final as it deserves

to give voters some variety. This song scores a nice five on the toe tapping scale and has some powerful drum and

guitar work that moves it along at a good pace. Surprisingly not the only song in the competition to include wolves in

the lyrics. Plenty of grunge and leather bring a stand out uniqueness of this performance. Don’t be surprised if you

catch yourself head banging to it. A good entry from Cyprus and I hope it pays off for them. Return to Index

Song: Loin d’ici (French)  – (English Translation)  Loin D'ici - Austria

Zoe has been a singer and performer all her life and recorded her first song when she was four! Zoe has made the

interesting choice of representing Austria this year by singing in French. You would think with such a long career shewould have something in her repertoire to impress the Eurovision crowd, but then you would be mistaken. This is a

sweet six teaspoons of sugar in your tea type of song. Not overly enjoyable as the cute factor runs out about half

way and then you just smile out of politeness so you don’t seem insensitive or b ored. Some happy fantasy like

visuals in the background may give you something else to focus on while Zoe is bleating onstage but really you just

want it to end by the two minute mark. A nice voice and a simple if not repetitive song. It will probably make it to the

grand final but again for reasons no one will really know or admit to. Thanks Zoe, really nice of you to stop by, we

    Estonia – SF1

    Artist : Jüri Pootsmann

Song : Play (English) Play - Estonia

Jüri has only been singing as a solo artist for the past three years and the last 12 months has seen him achieve

success after success. Last year Jüri won Estonia’s Idol competition and is now competing in Eurovision. “Play ” was

especially written for him by the same songwriters who wrote Estonia’s entry  last year that placed seventh. I can’ttell if I am adult enough or mature enough to like this song, or if it’s just the retro aspect of it that gives it a charm

that it wouldn’t otherwise have. At 21 Jüri delivers this song with a maturity you would expect from an older singer.

The sultriness of this song keeps you engaged and maybe that is what is enjoyable. I haven’t decided if I like this song

or not and can’t decide if it’s lounge music or music to seduce cougars with. I  won’t be surprised if it makes it to the

grand final and I will be watching the audience to see what demographic it appeals to. Enjoy this entry but you may

need to listen to it a few times to properly appreciate it or hate it completely.Return to Index

    Artist: Samra

Song: Miracle (English) Miracle - Azerbaijan

This year Azerbaijan is represented by Samra who delivers this song for all to shudder at. Samra’s only interesting

fact is that she doesn’t like cutting her hair which is why it is so long. I am also guessing she has a fear of singing

songs that are enjoyable. This malady of a song had me pinching the bridge of my nose trying to relieve the pressure

of the “URGH” building up inside. This song is as plastic and mass produced as takeaway containers, with about the

same depth and substance. Is there anything to like about this song… no. Samra is nice to look at but that’s not what

Eurovision is about but it does make this song palatable while you’re waiting for it to end. The lyrics are devoid of

purpose and the music comes straight out of a pre-programmed electronic keyboard robbing it of any timbre. Thissong will appeal to people who think that hair straightening should be an Olympic sport or that Honey Boo Boo has

made some valid observations on how society should function. It’s a miracle this song made it into the competition. Return to Index

    Montenegro – SF1

    Artist: Highway

Song : The Real Thing (English) The real thing - Montenegro

Grunge meets Eurovision and what a lovely and a welcome break from all the ballads. While I don’t like this song and

quite frankly I would consider it to be an assault on the ears that only the Taliban can deliver, it does give one a

breather from all the trite ballad nonsense. This is a rough and ready song sung in a grunge style that not everyone

will enjoy, me included. But it is a nice change from last year’s entry from Montenegro. I would like to say something

nice about this song, but then I don’t always get what I want. Not surprisingly this song is ranked last in the polls and

I think that placement doesn’t go far enough. The song gets a little interesting around the 2 minute mark, but then

loses its appeal soon after and you just want it to end. I am guessing this is actually a love song and if ever I come

Song : Hear them calling (English) Hear them calling - Iceland

Nice warm harmonies from a country that has ice in its name, this song has a fun, bouncy beat that scores an

irregular four on the toe tapping scale. But it is also very forgettable and doesn’t stand out at all. Greta and Iceland

have provided Eurovision with garnish, the thing that brightens the plate and then you push it away unless you don’trealise its garnish and then you eat it because you’re just that hungry. Break out the wind machine, fog machine,

light show, hell just throw everything at this song because it needs all the help it can to break out of the paisley

mould it was cast in. There is nothing offensive or memorable about this song. Greta performs it well but it’s hardly

the platform to win Eurovision on. Sit back and enjoy it, but don’t expect to remember it.Return to Index

It’s been three years since Bosnia & Herzegovina last performed in Eurovision and this year they are back with a

bang. Over the years this group has received over 150 local and international awards for their performances.

Although recently all members of the group found themselves in legal hot water when they started a brawl at their

local pub that put their ability to attend Eurovision in jeopardy. Fortunately everyone was let off and now they are

here to entertain us with this song. This is a powerful entry by this group with some amazing chello work to give this

song a very strong and rich sound. Both Dalal and Deen sing with a lot of passion and meaning which is also

enjoyable. However the inclusion of a rap section in the middle of the song gives the same reaction as anchovy

sorbet between courses. I like this song, I like the sound and I think it will do well. Fingers crossed for Bosnia &

Herzegovina. But a word of warning, if you don’t like it, don’t tell the band, you might get your head punched in.Return to Index

water, I can make this song tolerable. Not a bad little song, it does have its pleasant harmonies and a moderately

paced beat to help move it along to the three minute mark. Malta also seems to have no end of attractive singers

who are accompanied by strange men who hang around suspiciously in the background. Not overly memorable and

probably the song that when it comes on at the club allows everyone the chance to leave the dancefloor for a rest. A

Song: Heartbeat (English) Heartbeat - Latvia

At just 21 Justs is representing Latvia with this song which was written by last year’s Latvian entry Aminata. OK this

song has me absolutely confused. The lyrics are ok, the music is ok and Justs’ singing is passionate and powerful. But

put them all together and they don’t seem to be right for each other. It’s almost like the three parts of this song,

lyrics, music and singing style all belong to different performances. I think this song is proof of parallel universes.

Somehow Latvia has brought together three elements of different parallel universe songs and combined them to

make this performance. Sadly the result is not overly enjoyable. How far is Latvia from the Large Hadron Collider?

The components of this song just don’t blend together and I think the whole thing has turned bad. Oh and just a

quite well. Not a song that I would normally find enjoyable, but then again not everything has to be toe tapper. Not

sure if I have a short attention span or if this song just starts to drone on after a while. Poland might make it into the

this song from Switzerland is. If overdosing on Botox was a song this would be it. Of course it’s a ballad and Rykka

sings it in a lovely neutral way with very little highs or lows, the sort of music to defrost your fridge to. I really don’t

know what the song is about, but I think it’s important because Rykka keeps repeating herself. Rykka has a

wonderful crystal clear voice and this adds some value to her performance, but that’s the only value this

OK, let’s address the Elephant in the room, Hovi no amount of makeup is going to achieve what you hope it will, so

just accept that, move on and put the foundation away. Now that’s out of the way, “Made of Stars”  follows the usual

power ballad formula, start off slow, work your way up and finish with all the gusto you can manage then a quickreturn to being contemplative. Nice predictable song which Hovi manages to deliver without cracking the multiple

layers of makeup applied at a thickness usually reserved for rustproofing oil tankers. The song is sweet for a ballad,

tells you to be wondrous about the fact that you are made of stars and then the underlying meaning of you are

incredible for just being you. If you find this song enjoyable then good for you. If you use this as an anthem to get

Ivan has partitioned the Eurovision Reference Group requesting that he be able to perform naked and with a wolf or

wolves. Eurovision rules forbid live animals on stage but do not forbid nudity, so there may be some excessive man-

flesh during his performance. Depending on the decision by the reference group, they may reject his request if they

feel nudity would bring the show into disrepute. I am not really sure why he would need to perform naked or with a

wolf, this song is just as vacuous without the theatrics. Ivan tends to inject a bit too much energy into his

performance which doesn’t really match the cadence of the song. A nice little tempo helps make this song digestible

but it is without depth or purpose. Actually if he does bring a wolf on stage it will help keep people’s attention as

they hope it turns on him and rips him to shreds. Use this time to make a tea or coffee, you won’t miss muchwhether you watch it or hear it in the background.

should make it to the Grand Final. The song itself is emotive and catchy so it should have wide appeal. Sanja’s voice

is powerful and full of passion and very easy to get lost into. I think Serbia and Israel went to the same school of

The song has no real substance to it and will probably end up as the music for a vodka commercial or the theme to

drum, guitar, distortion and rift work give this song the head banging relief that is usually absent in Eurovision. Nice

to hear some real rock music rather than electronica generated noise (although there is some of that in this entry).

Refreshing is the best way to describe Georgia’s entry, I really enjoyed the alternative sound, the earthy delivery and

the technical artistry to pull off this song. Well done Georgia, let’s hope that the ballad bashed ears of the Eurovisionvoters will also find this a tonic and send votes your way.

Song: Fairytale (English) Fairytale - Albania

If anyone can serve up heartbroken angst its Albania. Eneda wasn’t sure about singing this song at first as shebelieved it was too challenging for her abilities, but I think she has done it justice. Getting the good points out of the

way first, lovely strong powerful voice, nice flow to the music and nice pace, lyrics aren’t even that bad, so why

doesn’t it work? This song is boring, not just boring, but it’s so boring that it can put a stampeding bull to sleep. I

don’t know why they called it “Fairytale”, maybe they should have called it “Lullaby ”. The melody is enticing but only

because of the harmonies and the song relies far too much on the chorus to provide a sustained appeal. The

frustrating thing is that it’s almost there and it really comes close to being enjoyable. I am hoping that dur ing the

competition Eneda will really put some power behind this song, only then will it go from boring to stunning. Pump it

out Eneda – you can do it! Otherwise it’s back to your day job as TV show host. Return to Index

    Artist: Laura Tesoro

Song: What’s the pressure (English) What's the Pressure - Belgium

At 19 you can expect Laura to be all about fun, fun, fun. What’s not expected is this song had its inspiration set 15  –

20 years before she was born. If you’re a child of the 70’s or 80’s this song will   really resonate with you. With

influences from Michael Jackson, you will instantly recognise the familiar Jackson five beat. Don’t seek too muchmeaning in the lyrics; she clearly didn’t seek guidance from Deepak Chopra or the Dalai Lama to write them. Want to

dance like you did as a teenager? Then this is it. Want to get people onto the dancefloor? Then this is it. Want

something to help console your friend who has just broken up with their partner? Look elsewhere. Scoring a peppy

seven on the toe tapping scale, Laura just missed out on winning this year’s Toe-Tapping award, hopefully she will be

able to pick up the pieces of her life and move on from that disappointment. I am not sure she will make it to the

grand final, although I hope she does as the ballads need to be kicked to the curb every now and then.Return to Index

    France: - GF

    Artist: Amir

Song: J’ai cherché (French and English) - (English translation). J'ai cherche - France

A wonderful entry from France this year. Good beat and tempo, this song has a wide appeal with its mix of French

and English (chorus) lyrics. This song is currently running second in the betting pools and I can see why. Amir brings

some great energy to the song and it moves along with a happy beat that keeps your hands clapping and toes

tapping on a scale of seven on the meter. Songs like this are a nice break from all the ballads and when they come

along they stand out even more. If Amir delivers it well on the night, it will be the first time in history that Russia has

considered France a threat.Return to Index

Song : Ghost (English) Ghost - Germany

Jamie-Lee is a big Japanese Decora Kei fan so be ready to see it reflected in her outfit at Eurovision, you can’t miss it,

she will be the one on stage looking completely ridiculous. Cosplay is one thing, but there is a time in your life when

you have to accept that it’s not for you, no matter how strong your love for it is. This song is the combination of

German efficiency and Japanese productivity which are probably not the best sources of inspiration, but good on her

for trying. Despite Jamie-Lee’s helpless girlie exterior she has a deep mature voice which is almost a mismatch for

this song. The performance is ok, the song is ok and the whole thing is just ok, however if she was making a car or

improving electronics, then I think this song would definitely be the right thing to encourage you to work harder and

faster and not bring shame to your family, your company or your prefecture.Return to Index

Song : No degree of separation (Italian) - (English translation). No degree of separation - Italy

Italy selects its Eurovision entrant by sending the winner of the Sanremo music festival. This year the winner “Stadio”

declined and instead Italy has sent the runner-up, Francesca. “No degree of separation” is a lyric heavy but enjoyable

ballad. Francesca delivers this haunting song with great heart, but if she uses the same stoic stance that she has in

the pre-competition video clip, then she runs the risk of disconnecting the audience from the commitment she is

putting into this song. It’s a fine line between making an artistic statement and keeping the slack jawed, low brow,

window licking gawkers entertained to hand over their votes. Make no mistake Francesca has a wonderful voice with

a steady rhythm that suits this song well, but if it’s matched with dead-pan delivery, she may lose votes. I really like

this song and I hope Italy will be there helping France and Spain fight the Russians for the Crystal (glass) Microphone

    this year.Return to Index

    Spain - GF

Artist : Barei Winner of the Toe Tapping Award.

Song : Say yay! (English) Say yay! - Spain

Welcome Spain with this wonderful up-beat, fast tempo song that scores a wonderful eight on the toe-tapping scale.

Russia might be the favourite to win, but France and Spain are bringing the fight right to them. Barei states that

when helping write this song, she wanted to create a rally cry for all those who are struggling to achieve their goals.

A fun, happy song that gets going pretty quickly and then as you’re settled into the grove it stops, pauses for a

second. I don’t get it, you don’t need to build buffering into a song Spain, that’s an Internet download problem not

something that you actually have to do. Is this artistic? Am I supposed to enter into some enlightened sense of

awareness because of it? This isn’t on Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, so I don’t get it. I am sure someone will explain

it to me and in revenge I will take it out on next year ’s entry from Spain. How dare they make me look stupid!

Anyway, enough about me and the pause that momentarily stops this song in its tracks. Bari is energetic in her

delivery and passionate in her style as you would expect from a Spaniard. This is a great number and should attract

some good votes. I hope it wins, that way next year’s Eurovision won’t be flooded with more boring Ballads. But

don’t be surprised if you are like me and are left scratching your head asking “but why did they pause?” Return to Index

    Artist : Frans

Song : If I were sorry (English) If I were sorry - Sweden

Host country Sweden has sent forth this entry that I find lacks enough substance for me to really like it, but I keep

coming back to it like a puzzle that I am yet to solve. I can’t decide if it’s the anthem for Affluenza teens who never

accept responsibility or if Frans has been wronged and is clearly stating that it’s not his place to apologise. The lyrics

seem to suggest the later and that he has been wronged by an ex, kinda gets you right in the feels. There is

something innocent, adolescent and modest about this song. At 17 Frans states that his entry is simple, natural andauthentic. This song is currently #1 in Sweden on Spotify and also the national singles sales chart topper, the betting

pools even place it at number 4 to win. But online the Eurovision fans claim it lacks what is needed to draw the votes

and that it is only popular due to good marketing. So who is correct? Is there no middle ground? You will need to

judge for yourself, Frans sings this genuine song with a tinny-brassy note, the music is simple and I can’t see the

need for a wind machine during this performance. Will it be delivered clean with just him on stage? Who knows? But

a solemn song like this should be delivered with simplicity.Return to Index

    United Kingdom - GF

    Artist : Joe and Jake

Song : You’re not alone (English) You're not alone - United Kingdom

This is the first time in six years that a UK entry has been chosen by public selection. Joe and Jake recently competed

individually on The Voice UK and bonded over their love of music and desire to earn money as they have no other

appreciable life skills. “You’re not alone” is a sweet catchy song that scores a solid six on the toe tapping scale. There

is a charity out there desperate for this song to become their anthem  – if you see one looking send them this way.

Does it have what it needs to win Eurovision? I don’t think so, but it is a very addictive entry and I have a strong

feeling you will be listening to it in the car over and over again in the very near future. Good luck UK, but I don’t think

It’s the first time it’s happened to me

Before, I just used to shut myself in

Keeping my distance from life and its stuff

Because I’d never felt it so deep down

And then I felt an emotion flare up quickly

And push its way into my heart without turning down its

    voice

And I feel no tension, only life inside me

    No degree of separation

    No kind of hesitation

There’s no division keeping us apart

We are going the same direction in this universe on the

    move

    There’s no degree of separation

I had less time for my heart and more for my mind

Always one step behind and my soul on high alert

and I watched the world from a door

never completely open, from a distance

and no, there’s no hesitation now inside me

There is no degree of separation

There is no degree of hesitation

There is no degree of space between us

    live in love

    We are stars aligned together

dancing through the sky, we are shining

Along our injuries and our flippancies,

It’s when we completely lose our faith,

That we find a lost paradise inside ourselves,

    Oh you…
