II WORKSHOP ON MUSEUMS SNS - EMA SECOND KENNETH HUDSON SEMINAR
EUROPEAN MUSEUMSAND THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS: IMPACT, PROBLEMS, REACTIONS
NOVEMBER 19, 2010, VOLTERRAPalazzo dei PrioriSala del Consiglio
Comune di Volterra
The workshop is organized by Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, in cooperation with EMA-European Museum Academy Foundation (The Hague), and in the context of the Kenneth Hudson Seminars.Following the fi rst workshop Collections: valuables or burdens? (2009), this new meeting aims at comparing experiences deriving from a variety of cultural, political and disciplinary contexts, on the theme:
EUROPEAN MUSEUMSAND THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS
THE IMPACT, THE PROBLEMS, THE REACTION
The workshop will debate these crucial key questions: to which extent are European museums affected by the global economic crisis? Which priorities are emerging at the different local and national levels? How are museums reacting to this situation and in which terms is it possible to defi ne an agenda for posi-tive solutions? What are the possible issues of a policy of sus-tainability within this new emerging context? In particular we propose to focus on: is it possible to plan countermeasures and solutions within new global strategies consistent with the process of evolution in the management of museums to enhance and accelerate the already running changes? The meeting will be hosted in Volterra, Palazzo dei Priori, Sala del Consiglio. Volterra is the seat of the Higher Learning Courses in Communication and Management of Cultural Heritage run by the Scuola Normale to which EMA also contributes with its expertise. A selected number of experts invited by SNS and EMA will pre-sent their point of view on the theme within the fi eld of their experiences and perspectives. The meeting and the public discussion will be open to experts, researchers, professionals, post graduate students and interested individuals who are active in the fi eld of Cultural Heritage.
