    Eurocodes Guides

Worked Examples for Buildings: EN 1990 to EN 1997 and UK National AnnexesEdited by K. Ranasinghe, TRADA Technology Ltd

This book is the first in a series of practical design guides to Eurocodes, which will complement the Eurocode Designers Guides. Worked Examples for Buildings provides extensive worked examples for the design of typical everyday building elements and assemblages, covering multiple Eurocodes to reflect the processes involved in designing a real structure.

Worked Examples for Buildings: EN 1990 to EN 1997 and UK National Annexes covers the basis of design, loading, concrete, steel, composite steel and concrete, timber, masonry and foundation designs. This book also provides examples of designing the structure of complete buildings. Unlike most Eurocode guides, which only cover individual codes relevant to specific elements, this book takes a through-project approach, referring to multiple Eurocodes in order to reflect the real process of designing a complex structure.

Designers Guide to Eurocode 5: Design of Timber Buildings EN 1995-1-1 J. Porteous and P. Ross

The part of Eurocode 5 covered by this guide, EN 1995-1, addresses the common rules and rules for buildings, including full explanation and commentary on the code with examples, and direction to the National Annex documents.

This series of Designers Guides to the Eurocodes provides comprehensive guidance in the form of design aids, indications for the most convenient design procedures and worked examples. The books also include background information to aid the designer in understanding the reasoning behind and the objectives of the codes. All of the individual guides work in conjunction with the Designers Guide to Eurocode: Basis of Structural Design.

Designers Guide to Eurocode 4: Design of Composite Steel and Concrete Structures, 2nd edition EN 1994-1-1R.P. Johnson

Eurocode 4 describes the principles and requirements for safety, serviceability and durability of composite steel and concrete structures. This guide provides the user with guidance on the interpretation and use of Part 1.1: General rules and rules for buildings of EN 1994, with flow charts and worked examples.

The new edition reflects the publication of the National Annexes and supporting material for the many Parts of ENs 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993 to which EC4 refers, added since the 1st edition of the Guide was written. There is also new material from research and the work of BSI Committee B/525/4 and CENs Maintenance Group for Eurocode 4 (Professor Johnson is a member of both).

EN 1990.

Aluminium is not as widely used for structural applications as it could be, partly as a result of misconceptions about material strength and durability but largely because engineers and designers have not been taught how to use it additional specific design checks are needed. A material with unique properties that need to be exploited and worked with, aluminium has many benefits and, when used correctly, the results are light, durable, cost effective structures.

EN 1999, Eurocode 9: Design of aluminium structures, details the requirements for resistance, serviceability, durability and fire resistance in the design of buildings and other civil engineering and structural works in aluminium. This guide provides the user with guidance on the interpretation and use of Part 1-1: General structural rules and Part 1-4: Cold-formed structural sheeting of EN 1999, covering material selection and all main structural elements and joints.

Torsten Hglund and Philip TindallSeries editor Haig Gulvanessian CBE

Torsten HGLUND TeknD, Professor in Steel Structures at KTH, Stockholm, has since 1964 experience in research, teaching and specialist consulting work dealing with steel, aluminium and timber structures. He is the author of more than 100 papers, several textbooks and specialist design guides. Torsten has been a member of several code writing committees in Sweden and during the Eurocode phase the Convenor of three Project Teams for Eurocode 9 Aluminium structures (part 1-1 General rules, 1-4 Structural sheeting and 1-5 Shells) and also member of Project Team for part 1-3 Cold-formed members and sheeting of Eurocode 3 Steel structures. He is a member of the Maintenance Group of Eurocode 9 and Eurocode 3 Part 1-3.

Philip TINDALL BSc CEng MICE is a chartered civil engineer with over 30 years professional experience in structural design and engineering. He has extensive experience in leading design teams on innovative and challenging schemes and is currently a Technical Director for bridges with Hyder Consulting. Phil specialises in steel and aluminium construction and has been a member of the BSI committee responsible for BS 8118 and for UK inputs to Eurocode 9 for 20 years.

Designers Guide to Eurocode: Basis of Structural Design, 2nd edition EN 1990H. Gulvanessian, J.-A. Calgaro and M. Holick

Eurocode 0, EN 1990: Basis of Structural Design is considered the primary document in the Eurocode suite which establishes for the structural Eurocodes the principles and requirements for safety and serviceability of structures. More importantly, EN 1990 must be applied whenever the Eurocodes 1 to 9 are used.

The Designers Guide was one of the first sources of detailed information on the use of EN 1990 and continues in this new edition to provide technical information on the background to the Eurocode and explain its relationship to the other Eurocodes.

The background to the research-based principles and rules is discussed, emphasising the rules that differ from those in existing codes. Worked examples illustrate the use of new procedures.

Designers Guide to Eurocode 8: Design of Bridges for Earthquake Resistance EN 1998-2M.N. Fardis, B. Kolias and A. Pecker

Designers Guide to Eurocode 8: Design of Bridges for Earthquake Resistance covers Part 2 Bridges of EN 1998 Design of structures for earthquake resistance, which is the standard for use in the seismic design of bridges in which horizontal seismic actions are mainly resisted through bending of the piers or at the abutments, and the seismic design of cable-stayed and arched bridges.

The new addition to the bestselling Designers Guides series was written by three world-renowned authorities on the subject, who were instrumental in drafting the original code. Containing worked examples throughout, this book is the only guide which deals specifically with EN 1998-2.

Designers Guide to Eurocode 9: Design of Aluminium Structures EN 1999-1-1 and -1-4P. Tindall and T. Hglund

Eurocode 9 covers the design of building and civil engineering works made from wrought and cast aluminium alloys.

While aluminium is a lesser-used material, EN9 is a complicated document and there is currently very little guidance to its use. The new addition to the bestselling Designers Guide series addresses the considerable demand for Eurocode guidance covering aluminium.

Designers Guide to Eurocode 9 is written by three authorities on the subject, who were instrumental in drafting the original code and contains worked examples throughout.
