The Edinboro Experience is the cumulative effect of unique events and

ideas that shape the lives of our students. It is a rite of passage: a personal

journey toward awareness and understanding.

Through this experience, our students acquire the confidence needed to

adapt to the multiple jobs that will characterise their future. It moulds

the character required to assume future trusteeship and leadership in

their communities…to succeed beyond their expectations.

Reaching out to more students. Nearly 8,800 students joined in the Edinboro Experience in 2010, the largest enrollment in the university’s history.

Society has great expectations of higher education. We hold ourselves responsible for

meeting them. Nowhere is this commitment more aptly demonstrated than the current

transformation of our campus, with over $200 million being invested in renovations

and new facilities to create optimal environments for learning and living.

In fact, the retention rate of first-time, full-time baccalaureate-seeking students has

increased to 75 percent, a clear indication that the perceived value of the Edinboro

Experience is growing. And these students are graduating with less debt, as evidenced

by our recent national ranking among universities in the north region.

Technologically advanced, environmentally compatible. Our new facilities feature geothermal heating and are replete with water-conserving technologies and energy-efficient windows, insulation and lighting systems.

The crux of our mission is preparing minds and moulding character.

What is acquired at Edinboro goes beyond the knowledge and skills

requisite for specific professions. Our students leave with the ability to

adapt to ever-evolving careers and professions.

At the centre of the educational experience are the more than 400 people

who comprise our faculty, 87 percent of whom hold terminal degrees.

The academic strength of our university is founded on their capabilities,

and our reputation for quality continues to grow.

A community of learning. Our students also learn from each other, encountering new and diverse ideas, viewpoints and perceptions.

Philanthropy supporting our university affirms the value of the Edinboro Experience.

It also helps to ensure that this experience will be available for others to share.

The generosity of our benefactors has a direct, measurable impact on the quality

of our classrooms and facilities as well as our academic programmes and

campus lifestyle.

Everyone in the Edinboro community benefits from philanthropy as it pays

forward to sustain the value of all that we do. One of the most telling statements

confirming the value of our university is the record amount of giving from our

supporters, with gifts exceeding $5.5 million this year.

Making generosity a tradition.Edinboro students carry on the spirit of volunteerism, activism and support for such causes as Erie City Mission, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Scots Fighting for Haiti.

The need for higher education has never been more evident.

Through the Edinboro Experience, we are raising the intellectual tone

of society, cultivating the public mind, and instilling the clarity of thinking

and judgment upon which our futures depend.

Perhaps the greatest value of the Edinboro Experience is its accessibility.

The cost of our education is within the means of nearly every high school

graduate, a benefit that is at the core of our mission as well as the

Commonwealth’s goals for state-supported higher education.

It is inclusive as well as innovative.
