SAVE THE DATE: KINDERGARTEN - YEAR 2 SPORTS CARNIVALEmu Plains Public School K-2 Sports Carnival will be held Friday September 27th.

Events will start at 9:15am and finish with a picnic lunch at 1:10pm.

Mrs Alison Koutzas

KINDERGARTEN 100 DAYS OF SCHOOLKindergarten had a wonderful time last Friday celebrating their 100 Days of School. The children had lots of activities involving the theme “100”. They wrote recipes to make their fairy bread, which they thought was extremely delicious. They counted to 100 to decorate the cake with smarties. We had a special visit from some future kindergarten children from Kids Place childcare centre.

We had a lovely picnic in the afternoon with so many parents and carers who joined us. It was nice play a few games or relax on the rugs.

It was a fantastic day to celebrate all of the wonderful things we have learned to do this year so far!

Mrs Sarah Willett-FoyeAssistant Principal

WORD OF THE WEEKWord of the Week continues in Term 3 with words for family and the environment. Students will also combine words taught in Term 2 to make sentences. As part of this program the students and their teachers will be learning by watching video clips of Darug elders, Aunty Jacinta and Uncle Richard as they model the correct way to say the words. Encourage your child to share their learning with you and connect with the local Aboriginal language.

ATHLETICS CARNIVALOur school Athletics Carnival will be held next Thursday 8th August, at Glenbrook Oval. This year we will be introducing novelty events into our carnival to improve participation and engagement, while providing maximum opportunities for all students to take part in active play on the day. Students who do not wish to take part in competitive events will have the opportunity to take part in novelty games and sports, while still earning participation points that will go towards their sport house total.

Students will arrive at school at the regular time and will line up under the South COLA on the 9.05am morning bell. Here rolls will be marked, instructions will be given and students will board buses to travel to the carnival. All students will be supervised by the Primary teachers in attendance on the day. As the Athletics Carnival is part of the normal school curriculum, there will be no Primary classes operating at the school on the day of the carnival. Dress for the carnival is full sport uniform including school hat. All personal items should be clearly marked with the student’s name. All students are to bring sufficient food and drink for the day as unfortunately there will be no canteen facilities on the day.

We are looking forward to another wonderful Emu Plains Public School carnival with our students.

Mrs Christy HudsonAssistant Principal

PREMIERS SPORTING CHALLENGEThis year students at Emu Plains will participate in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge. The Premier’s Sporting Challenge is a 10–week program designed to encourage students to track and improve their sporting participation during the program cycle and beyond. Physical activity isn’t just about being fit, it’s about building resilience, improving concentration, and supporting overall health and wellbeing.

Students will log their weekly physical activity via either a wall chart or a log book, dependent on their year level. Students who complete the 10-week challenge will receive a personalised certificate mid Term 4.

Certificates will reflect the daily activity time commitment based on the following award levels:

Award Daily Activity Time

Bronze 30 minutes per day

Silver 45 minutes per day

Gold 60 minutes per day

Diamond 80 minutes per day

Physical activity is logged in 20-minute increments. Activities may include time spent in a broad range of sports during lunchtime, fitness sessions, in school sport programs, class time, before or after school and on weekends.

Mrs Christy HudsonAssistant Principal

PSSAThe winter PSSA competition will continue this term with the exception of week 2 (02/08/19) due to Year 6 camp. We have been hugely impressed with the commitment and sportsmanship shown by all of our PSSA competitors. There is a residual balance of $18 to be paid for the remainder of the winter PSSA season for those students who did not pay the full $72 at the beginning of the season. Notes will be given to all PSSA students next week outlining the balance of payment due.

Mrs Christy HudsonAssistant Principal

GOALBALLCongratulations to our Goalball team who have proceeded to the NSW Goalball School Knockout Shield. This competition will take place on Thursday 29th August, 2019 at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park. Students will be accompanied by Mrs Murphy on the day. We wish all participating students the best of luck as they represent our school in this competition. We look forward to hearing how they do on the day.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING UPDATEOur teachers have been working together looking the numeracy progressions, specifically the work around additive strategies and collaboratively designing tasks to challenge the thinking of our students. Teachers engaged in this work on Staff Development Day and then continued the planning at this week’s Monday afternoon TPL session. I would like to thank our teaching staff for their ongoing dedication towards their own professional learning.

This term we will continue with our Quality Teaching Enquiry sessions which will see our teachers have time to work together to discuss and plan for student learning. We also have two of our teachers, Mrs Fuller and Mrs Eijkman attending some professional learning around numeracy, which will then be shared with our whole staff. We have some wonderful learning opportunities continuing to happen for our staff.
