European Forest Resources
JRC on 9 November 2009 – Biosoil Conference 28
Some forest information exists at the European Forest Data Centre
Information of forests at the European level is fragmented and incomplete
Country level statistics data are collected by International Organizations
Quality, completeness, harmonization of the country data is not available/guaranteed
Higher spatial resolution data of European forests currently not collected
European wide information on forests is necessary, but no EU mechanisms/mandate for forest monitoring exists.
How can Europe guarantee that its forests are managed sustainably and will continue to be so under future climate change scenarios?
A debate on “Forest Protection and Information Systems”
has been launched
Final remarks
