Letter from the Editor

When you think about the major milestones in your life your wedding is probably one that is at the top of the list. There are not many days that are as exciting as a wedding day. It’s all about being surrounded with the people that love you and feeling like you and your loved one are the most important people in that moment.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t the little girl who was planning her wedding 20 years in advance. My love for weddings followed my love for beautiful photographs. It’s easy to look at a family portrait and tell that the people in the photos don’t want to be there. That’s never the case in wedding photos. The love that people share at weddings continuously radiates through the photographs.

So, whether you were the five-year-old girl dressing up in her mother’s gown and shoes, or your interest in weddings came later in life you will fit in with Ethereal. We are going to be there every step of the way. We will be there when you choose your dress, your cake, and your photographer. We will be there when it’s 3 a.m. and you’re trying to make DIY centerpieces. We will be there to reminisce with you on your ten-year anniversary.

We are here to make your wedding day as seamless as possible, so that you can enjoy the day with the people you love instead of stressing out over the hors d’oeuvres. We can’t wait to go on this journey with you and we hope that you join us on ours.

Thank you so much for your continued support,

$8,000 Dream WeddingBy Sydney Dore

any brides dream of their wedding from the time they are very young. They imagine the flowers, the cake, the venue, their beautiful white dress, what they do not imagine is the price tag. While the average wedding costs about $26,000, couples are trying to cut costs without cutting quality. With the help of the Party Belles, Amy and Leah from York, PA, the dream of planning a breath taking wedding in under $8,000 is possible.

Dress to ImpressShopping sales racks and salon flash sales may leave bride’s budgets in a bind, but shopping websites may be able to ease the burden. While searching for wedding dresses may not yield the right results, expand the search to white gowns. Use subscription websites such as netaporter.com or theoutnet.com to find discounted designer gowns just as beautiful and romantic as the one in the bridal salon window. What we spent: $600

InvitationsEtsy.com is a great place to find designer stationary on a budget. Brides can find beautiful, rustic, handmade invites that cost only a fraction of what they will be charged at boutique stationary stores. Each stationary set is customized to the needs of the couple and many of the designers have a wide collection that will cater to every color palette and theme. What we spent: $273.75

Flowers

There is nothing quite as beautiful as a bouquet of fresh flowers, but nothing quite as costly. Skip the price tag that comes with a florist, and find the flowers yourself. With the help of your wedding planner or your bridal party, shop flower markets and buy your flowers wholesale. Websites like flowerswholesale.com will give you great deals for your big day without having to spend more. Bouquets: $150

Location: Planners Know BestIf you are using a wedding planner, talk to them about finding a good deal on a venue. Often they have consistent relationships with local vendors and can help you find a good deal. Some of the Party Belles favorite locations include Adam’s County Winery, Pemeberly Farm and the Yortowne Hotel. If you’re not using a wedding planner, shop around and do not be afraid to bargain for the best deal.

Top 3 Planner Tips

1. Size MattersThe smaller the better! When it comes to counting guests for venue and food: less is more. Keeping your wedding intimate allows wiggle room in your budget, and you know you have the most important guests in attendance, the Belles say.

2. Do It YourselfLook at Pinterest for décor ideas and search flea markets to find the perfect pieces to make your wedding beautiful.

3. Enlist your Bridal Party Asking your bridesmaids and family for help makes the process go by faster. Use their craft skills or their expert music taste to take the stress out of the big day.

t’s your 50th anniversary party and your

grandchildren are asking you every

imaginable question about your wedding day.

You no longer have the flowers, the cake,

or the party favors, but you do have your

wedding photo album. Photos are one of the

only ways to fully preserve your wedding day,

and you want to make sure that you can share

that experience with your friends and family

for years to come.

So, what is the difference between a cheap

wedding photographer and an expensive

wedding photographer? An expensive

wedding photographer is one that will guide

you through the process. They usually have

packages that include both an engagement

session and a full day of shooting on your

wedding day. The only downside of an

experienced photographer is the price. You

can expect to spend upwards of $2500 on a

good wedding photographer.

Wedding photographers that are just starting

out or who haven’t had a lot of experience

are likely to charge a lot less, but the quality

of work is likely going to suffer. This

doesn’t mean that you should discount new

photographers though! All photographers

have to start somewhere, and all brides have

different budgets. The question we’ll be

answering is: Are photographers worth the

splurge?

Brianna Wilbur started her photography career

in 2012. At the time, Brianna was working full

time as a nurse, and she was using her passion

for photography to make some extra money

and hone in on her craft. In just three years

Brianna has created a beautiful business out of

her passion. Just this March Brianna left her

full-time nursing position to put everything

into her growing business.

Brianna is a strong proponent of charging

what you are worth whether you’re a

photographer or a plumber. Brianna said she

personally knows a lot of people who didn’t

know what they were getting into when they

hired their wedding photographer. They didn’t

know what quality was, and they didn’t know

what the price they were paying was going

towards.

Many people believe that they’re only paying

their photographer $3,500 to take photos for

eight hours. This isn’t the case. Photographers

spend hours replying to emails, branding

their business, and editing the photographs.

Editing thousands of photographs can take

attention to the quality than to

the cost!"

28

Page 29: Ethereal (Phelps)

upwards of 30 hours. Full-time photographers

have to plan out their own salary, account for

their equipment costs or rentals, and travel

expenses.

Brianna suggested researching local

photographers early in the planning process

and asking your married friends what their

experiences were like. Brianna also said that

while wedding photography is often very

expensive it is completely worth it. The

photographs from your wedding day will be

one of the only ways to cherish and remember

the events of the day.

What happens if I take the chance?

Lauren Grove is one woman who regrets

hiring a cheap photographer. Lauren, like

most women, started planning her wedding

using big wedding websites. Unfortunately, she

was let down by the resources these websites

provided her. She didn’t do her homework or

talk to her friends about the experience they

had with their photographer.

Lauren also got so caught up in the price of

the packages that she completely forgot about

the quality of the photos. She said, “ It can be

quite difficult to compare just based on price

because often times photographers’ pricing

structures are different- not to mention that

their experience and quality is going to be

different too! So please, I beg of you- pay

more attention to the quality than to the cost!”

Many women like Lauren simply don’t know

what to look for in a photographer. We

suggest taking the time to simply look up

“wedding photographers in my area.” After

finding some local photographers take a

look at their reviews and find their website

and social media accounts. Compare price,

portfolios, customer reviews, and their

personalities.
