LAST GAMEETBU 76, MILLSAPS 55

MARSHALL, Texas—Amanda Rucker led the way for the East Texas Baptist Uni-versity women’s basketball team as they opened the 2014-15 season handily over Millsaps College, 76-55. Rucker posted a double-dobule in the win.

Rucker led the team with 24 points and 14 rebounds. She made 9 of 15 shots, including five of eight from three point range. She had a double-double in the first half alone as the team jumped out to a 40-21 halftime lead. In the first half ETBU shot 15 of 23 from the field and made six of nine three pointers.

Defensively ETBU played great, limiting Millsaps to under 30% shooting for the game, including just 5-of-22 from beyond the arc. ETBU also forced five steals and nine turnovers in addition to allowing only one Millsaps player to score in double figures.

“We held them to about 55 points, and that was our goal. We have been having some trouble on defense so we were really pleased with that.” Rucker said fol-lowing the game.

In regards to the offense in the game, head coach Dustin Howard said,”we were 6-9 from three in the first half. And that helped our offensive game tremendously, when you have posts that can score and can also find open shooters it opens your whole game up. In the first half we got a couple buckets early in the post from Amber Carver and when they started double teaming,Amber found open shooters and they knocked them down.”

Amber Carver was second on the team in scoring with 14 points despite being limited to only 15 minutes due to early foul trouble. April Leonard was third on the team with 10 points in 34 minutes, and made two threes.
