Estonia as an aspiring Arctic Council observer state: promoting smart solutions 30 November 2020 16.00-18.00 EET 15.00-17.00 CET 9.00-11.00 EST There are many challenges related to the Arctic that require serious commitment from international actors to guarantee its sustainable development. Estonia as a close neighbour of the Arctic would like to contribute and do its part. Thus, Estonia recently submitted an application to apply for observer status at the Arctic Council. Estonia is commited to a sustainable Arctic, and has a lot to offer – in addition to thorough scientific expertise and know-how, Estonia has practical experience from implementing smart solutions by both the private and public sector, which could provide innovative solutions for the preservation of the Arctic ecosystem and to help the indigenous peoples of the Arctic to preserve and improve their lifestyles.
