Camas backcountry backyard is still out of bounds! Couch k Wells accesses remain closed! “Everything’s a month behind,” road boss says!

oadmasters from the USFS Fairfield Ranger District and Camas County laid down rules for the roads at the Monday meeting of the Camas County Board of Commissioners. The subject: current high water,

future high water, remaining snow pack and the level of damage to the backcountry roads in Camas County’s northside public lands. The Couch Summit and Wells Summit accesses remain closed because of hazardous road conditions and the difficulty of providing public safety and rescue services in the prevailing conditions. The USFS staff noted that water content of remaining northside snow up high is still substantial, so that flooding activity will continue: “We’re gonna have high water for a while.” County road boss Mike Gill reported to the Board that County road crews are catching up to many road washouts down on the flats. Gill and county engineer Steve Yearsley are scheduled to check out notably impacted bridges at Freegold, Camas Creek on Mormon Road, and Willow Creek. ❦
