Dr. Suresh A. V.

From the Principal 's deskDear Friend,

The first quarter of 2018 has just crossed us. BMSIT&M has begun with a fine note. The two programmes namely, Information Science and Engineering (UG) and Master of Computer Applications (PG) have earned accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi. I am glad to inform you that we have created 60 additional seats in Information Science and Engineering from 2018-19, which means 60 more prospective students can benefit from BMSIT’s quality education. Congratulations to all the stake holders of these programmes.

The University results of all the branches in the just completed odd semester have been very good. Most of the results have been above 85%. This is the result of our special effort to help slow learners to improve their academic ability and confidence to face the examinations. Special appreciations to all the faculty members, coordinators and students responsible for this.

This semester, we started off with a novel value addition programme, i. e., OPEN COURSES. The knowledge/skills in demand in the industry were identified and offered to students in the form of 25-hour Open Courses by all departments including Basic sciences. Any student of any department/year could register for any of the courses offered. It is so overwhelming to know that more than 600 students benefitted because of this special effort. The demand could not be met in full, and hence, many more programmes are in the offing. This effort is complemented by more than 500 projects being done by students under Project based learning (PBL).

The AICTE has come up with a model curriculum for undergraduate programmes and our University is familiarising all faculty members to adopt it through workshops. I am glad that a large number of our faculty members have actively participated in these workshops and are eager to take it forward. I am sure that the 3-week Induction programme suggested by the AICTE will go a long way in alleviating the adjustment problems for fresh students and enabling them to quickly orient themselves to professional education. The plan and preparation of our faculty, staff and administrators should help us sail ahead with model curriculum most effectively from next academic year 2018-19.

Thank you. Warm Regards.

Dr. Mohan Babu. G. N. Principal
