did you know?

the “ink” used for the Kindle 3rd Generation has the same contrast as a paperback book

no back-lighting means less eye strain

complaints of eye soreness were because of less frequent blinking (i.e. they were reading for longer periods of time than they were used to)

quotes fromstudents

No one knows how big or little my book is. I’m a poor reader, but no one

can tell because I’m carrying and reading a

Kindle; not a “baby” book.

Page 11: Establishing & perpetuating a kindle program in your school presented by Beth Carrig Kindle Coordinator, Perkins County Schools.

Lots of pages intimidate me. I freak out when I see how

much work it is going to take to finish the book. I’m always checking how many pages to the end. But with the Kindle, I press a button to turn the page and make

progress without stress.

QUOTES FROMSTUDENTS

Page 12: Establishing & perpetuating a kindle program in your school presented by Beth Carrig Kindle Coordinator, Perkins County Schools.

I read the latest novels, but they tend to be quite large and come in paperback. It

doesn’t take much to ruin the covers and spine, and then I have to pay for the damage. The Kindle allows me to read huge books without having to

carry a huge book.

QUOTES FROMSTUDENTS

I had set up reading groups for several students to read and discuss the same book,

but there was only one copy in the library. The electronic version was

purchased and loaded on Kindles, and each one in the group instantly had a

copy for themselves.

QUOTES FROMTEACHERS

Students who tend to dislike

reading wanted to try the new

ended up reading a book!

My child who did not enjoy reading

checked out a Kindle at school. He loved it

so much that I bought him one for his birthday. I am sold on Kindles!

Sweet Farts 4.4 3 pts

by Raymond Bean

Someone has been farting up a storm at school and everyone thinks Keith Emerson is to blame. Unfortunately for Keith, it has earned him the nickname "S.B.D." (silent but deadly). To make matters worse, Keith's dad is a self proclaimed "Fart Machine" who really stinks it up at home. With the science fair quickly approaching, Keith decides he has had enough. He comes up with a science fair project idea to turn the foul smell of human gas into something sweet smelling. The idea lands him in the principal's office, and in big trouble with his mom. With the help of his little sister Emma, his dad, his crazy grandma, and Benjamin Franklin (great American scientist), Keith will attempt to make the greatest scientific discovery of all time, the cure for the common fart.

print-out of reading levels

Should you have students who need to choose books according to reading level, create a sortable Numbers document with the titles, authors, AR levels, and AR points.

Print it out and/or put it on the library search computer desktop.

Send the file to teachers so they can choose books for their students from the e-library.
