    more than an

MBAby Ashok Som, Associate Dean, Global MBA

Business is becoming more and more global each and every day,

transcending cultures and generations and crossing borders that used to

stand between technologies, markets, and jobs. This change in the global

business environment has resulted in both challenges and opportunities:

challenges in terms o managing business, opportunities in terms o

creating growth and value, particularly in the emerging markets o Asia,

Latin America, and Arica. But global opportunities also raise global risks

and complex issues, and ready-made solutions no longer work.

Companies are looking or a new breed o entrepreneurial managers, with

a willingness to take risks and continuously reinvent new ways o doingprotable, responsible, sustainable business. How do we rise to such a

    challenge?

The Global MBA sets itsel apart rom other MBA programs through its

unique combination o knowledge-centered courses and seminars with

experiential learning, to continuously challenge, test, and develop

participants critical thinking ability and creativity. The Global MBA is

designed to strengthen the ties between business and policy, theory and

practice. It is designed to oer companies a means to educate their

high-potential managers, as well as invite a diverse mix o individualparticipants who will develop an elite proessional network. Personal

attention, via mentoring, career development, and a range o elective

oerings will enable participants to identiy and build their strengths.

In short, it is much more than an MBA. It is a tool or change.

Because we aim to train the responsible decision-makers o

tomorrow, we designed the Global MBA program to reveal the

potential o young managers. It seeks to develop not only knowledge

but know-how and a heightened consciousness o their role as

    business leaders in our society.

SingaporeCommercial Crossroads o the East and WestRich and VibrantSingapore is a dynamic and vibrant Asian

city that continues to attract multinational

corporations and educational institutions. It is

ascinating and ull o opportunity as a businesshub, and its location makes or an ideal starting

point rom which to explore the rich culture and

geography o Southeast Asia: Thailand, Indonesia,

Malaysia, Vietnam It is an ideal locale to study

    cross-cultural communication and management

techniques or a modern, interconnected, and

    globalized society.

    Strategically Located

The beginning o the century saw a conscious

decision on the part o ESSEC to solidiy its

    international presence through the establishment

o a campus in Asia. Asia was an obvious choiceto two distinct reasons. First, students would

have the beneit o an enriched educational

experience in one o the global economys most

dynamic regions, and ESSEC too would beneit

rom an opportunity to heighten its educational

competencies and authority in relation to

Asia and business on the continent. In 2003,

Singapore was selected as the best location or

the new campus. The economic vibrancy o the

city-state and its unique role as the geographical,

commercial, inancial, and cultural crossroadsbetween East and West make it the ideal location

    or ESSEC.
