Important Notes

Alias Automotive, Surface and Design fully support 32 and 64-bit environments. Running the 64-bit native version requires Window s XP x64 Edition or Window s 7 64-bit.

64-bit systems may experience longer launch times w hen compared w ith the 32-bit application.

The 32-bit binary supports the /3GB sw itch w ith supported versions of Microsoft Window s. The /3GB sw itch allocates 3 GB of virtual address space to an application that uses

IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE in the process header. This sw itch allow s applications to address 1 GB of additional virtual address space above 2 GB. On 64-bit editions of

Window s the 32-bit Alias application can utilize up to 4GB of address space w ith no modif ication to the system. The native 64-bit version of Alias does not have have the above limitation

and w ill utilize all available memory.

Certain 3rd party softw are may alter the processor aff inity settings, affecting multi-cpu systems running Alias.exe and its spaw ned processes. To check the aff inity setting right click on

the Alias.exe process inside the Window s Task Manager and select Set Aff inity... ensure that all available CPUs are enabled.

Alias or its component programs may not launch successfully depending on your Window s security settings. If this occurs, you may either unblock the program via the Window s

Firew all Security Alert dialog, or add it as an Exception in the Exceptions Tab in the Window s Firew all dialog box. For more information, please see the Microsoft Update. Similar

The configurations show n are subject to change, and additional qualif ied configurations may be added after qualif ication testing has been carried out.

The graphics drivers specif ied in this table are the drivers that w ere used for the qualif ication process. While it may be possible to use Alias for Window s successfully on

earlier or later drivers, Autodesk cannot guarantee their performance.

Autodesk w ill continue to explore new candidates for Alias for Window s qualif ication and w ill monitor the current configurations.

Advanced Hardware Rendering Features in Alias

Using the advanced capabilities of modern graphics hardw are it is possible to produce higher levels of realism w hen using the Hardw are Shade functionality w ithin Alias. These

features enable more accurate reflection mapping and other effects in hardw are. In order to achieve these results in hardw are your graphics card and driver combination must fully

support the OpenGL Shading Language (GLSL) w hich is part of the OpenGL2.0 specif ication. The follow ing table lists features that require GLSL support. In most cases Alias detects

incompatible hardw are and w ill not expose these advanced features.

Per-Pixel Shading Mode must be selected inside the Hardw are Shade options in order to see the advanced shading capabilities.
