TO OPERATE
Put dial in AUTO position
Manual Watering
 Water by Valve
Water by Program– Valves must have start times or they will not water
– Start and turn to AUTO to advance through each valve
– Not a recommended method to check a controller

Delay Watering
Delay watering for all programs. Use if you desire no irrigation for up to 14 days to allow landscape to dry out. Manual watering still operates during delay.
12
Calendar Day Off
Use the Calendar Day Off to schedule special events or holidays in advance when you know irrigation should NOT occur on a specific date. For example, July 4th
(Independence Day, USA.)
Valve Settings
Valve Delay – Pause between one valve and the next. Will apply to all valves in any given program. May cause users to think they have an error! Look for this in troubleshooting!!
 Cycle and Soak™
Master Valve (MV) or Pump – When a valve will open
 Sensor Override

Valve Settings
Valve Delay – Pause between one valve and the next. Will apply to all valves in any given program. May cause users to think they have an error! Look for this in troubleshooting!!
Cycle and Soak™- Set minimum soak time and maximum run times
Master Valve (MV) or Pump – What operates the valve
Sensor Override – “ON” means the valve will operate when the sensor is active.
Special Features
 Set Language
 Back-up Programs– Store Programs
– Recall Programs
– Delayed Recall
14
Sensor Bypass Switch
Sensors allow the interrupt of irrigation and over ride the controller.
To wire a sensor, remove the yellow jumper.
Troubleshooting
15
Test all Valves / Check System
Confirm the information entered for each program
Calculate the total run time for each program
Calculate the total daily watering time of each valve
 Test ALL Valves
Run a RASTER wiring test (open / short)
GREAT PLACE TO START TROUBLESHOOTING
Test a Single Valve
Inside the controller a “hot post” terminal is available to test each valve individually
16
ALARM Messages
Sensor Error Message: Watering Suspended by Sensor
 Watering suspended by Sensor
Red ALARM light will be illuminated.
 To deactivate, switch to “Bypassed”.
 Change with NEW LXD Controller
17
Short on Valve XYZ
 Action: Run RASTER Test
Indication: Controller has recognized an electrical fault in a specific valve. This is most likely an error with the solenoid or wire connectors on the valve lead. It must be repaired or fixed or the error message will return.
**Resetting the controller will NOT make the message go away.
Module NOT Recognized
Action: Completely uninstall and reinstall the module. Take it out, and put it back. This resets the module and re-establishes the connection.
Indication: Bad or NO connection with module.
**This error message could be a sign of many other issues. For example, if someone had a surge to the module and it is no longer recognized by the controller, the error message will still be “Module NOT Recognized”.
18
No Base Module
 Action: Install a Base module.
Indication: Base module is missing or was disconnected.
No Programs Will Auto Run:
 No Start Days
 No Start Times
 No Station Run Times
Seasonal Adjust at 0% – (not an issue if using an ET Manager Cartridge)
No monthly seasonal adjust for month XYZ

Irrigation and Controller
Problems
Program does not come on when expected:
Dial is in the OFF position. Turn to AUTO
No Start time for desired valve
Rain Delay feature is preventing watering – (display will show the rain delay and remaining days)
Today does not have a scheduled start time
– (test all valves / check system)
Program’s seasonal adjust is set to 0%
20
Valve does not come on when expected:
No run time set for valve
– (Test all Valves / Check System)
 Water pressure to valve interrupted
Short or open circuit disrupted the valve (alarm light on)
 Sensor is preventing watering
No Start time for desired valve
Program’s seasonal adjust is set to 0%
Watering starts when it should NOT:
A program has been manually started
An unwanted watering start time may be scheduled in the controller
(Test all Valves / Check Systems)
The programs may be scheduled on top of each other. Programs A,
B, and C will not run simultaneously and will run one after
another…so the start times may move if you have not scheduled
them appropriately. ONLY program “D” will run at the same time as
another program. Valves in program “D” cannot be scheduled to run
at the same time in any other program.
21
Display shows operation, but no watering occurs:
 Sensor is preventing irrigation
Bypass switch set to “ACTIVE” but no sensor connected
/ or jumper is missing (yellow wire)
Terminal on controller has no valve connected
Display shows NO POWER
No power is supplied to the controller – verify the outlet
is working. Verify the power to the controller.
PTC fuse is open. Disconnect the controller for the
power source. Repair circuit fault causing fuse to blow.
Reconnect power.
22
My display is frozen
Hit the RESET button on the back of the front panel
Date, time, and programming are retained
The Rain Bird logo should appear briefly before the date and “AUTO” appear
Display is partially or completely blank
Did this occur immediately after installation?? They may have connected it
to 220 volts of power instead of 120 and should use a volt meter to check
the electrical outlet. This type of error is not covered under warranty.
Reset the controller using reset button
Turn off and remove 9-volt battery
Let it sit for 3-5 minutes
 Reconnect and power up.
If normal operation is not restored, either a high electrical surge or
lightening has damaged the controller.
Lightening is not covered under warranty.
