Cyprus (officially the Republic of Cyprus) is the third biggest island in the Mediterranean Sea, fortunate enough with a mild climate and a rich natural heritage that we can enjoy all year round. Taking into account the plenty of rustic villages to explore and delicious food to savor, this is my Cyprus travel guide with a list of the 5 things you shouldn’t miss in order to make the most of your holiday. The Akamas Peninsula – For Nature Enthusiasts This is a lovely area close to Paphos and excellent for cycling, walking or even mountain biking! This is the best time to explore this amazing coastal area in southern Cyprus and its beautiful wilderness until it still remains untouched by urbanized development. Hop onto many trails and self-explore the very popular Aphrodite and Adonis Trails. Tochni and Kalavasos – Classic Villages Experience the aura of rural Cyprus villages complete with narrow cobbled streets, old houses in traditional stone and hospitable locals. Active visitors can spend their days horse riding, cycling along the authentic disused rail tracks or visiting the ancient settlement sites. You can also take up sailing, snorkeling and strolling around the less crowded beaches of Cyprus villages. Gourmet Food & Wine – “Taste” the Pride of the Mediterranean Food & Wine lovers will be in their element in Cyprus; the country is believed to be the one where the world's oldest named wine - a dessert wine called Commandaria - was made. The Tsiakkas winery is a must visit for a taste of the most authentic wine you have ever tasted. The more adventurous may want to sample Zivania!
