EV*, ECO, NORMAL Mode

The drive mode selector on the center console allows you to easily adjust the ES to match with your driving mood. In ECO mode, the engine output and gear selection are automatically adjusted to optimize fuel efficiency in various driving conditions. The air conditioning, airflow volume and ventilation fan are intelligently controlled to further reduce fuel consumption. Select EV* mode and the Lexus Hybrid Drive provides an almost silent drive up to normal speeds, using no gasoline and emitting zero emissions. In EV*, ECO and NORMAL mode, the instrument panel takes on a tranquil blue colour, while the Hybrid System Indicator* helps you to drive more efficiently.

SPORT Mode

Select SPORT mode, the ES retunes powertrain and handling characteristics for sports driving. Switching to SPORT mode, the instrument panels illuminates in a vibrant red.

At the traffic lights, the engine can shut down completely. Touch the throttle and electric power provides the initial motivation. As speed increases the engine kicks in so both power sources work together for added acceleration. At cruising speed, the engine is the main power source, then once you release the accelerator or apply the brakes, regenerative braking recharges the battery by capturing the energy that would normally be wasted.
