Main Customer Requirements (Infrabel)

• Maximum speed of 300 km/h including border crossing (for connection L4 – HSL Zuid)

• Design headway of 3 minutes

• ERTMS/ETCS specifications SRS 2.2.2 (at the time of the contract), now updated to SRS 2.3.0 (Corridor 2007 list of CRs)

• Nominal operation in ETCS level 2, fall-back operation in ETCS level 1

• Reduced level of performance for level 1 operation (maximum speed 160 km/h, headway 6 min)

• Speed restrictions at “on-sight”, 80 km/h, 160 km/h, 220 km/h

• Mandatory interfaces

Scope of the project

• A turn-key signalling system on L 3 and L 4, including-ERTMS/ETCS trackside equipment for level 1 and level 2- Interlocking-Train detection systems (track circuits and axle counters)-Miscellaneous lineside equipment -Power supply for signalling-Diagnosis system-Cables-Fitment of one locomotive for test purposes

• Contract won by a consortium lead by Alstom Transport, covering -System Design, Equipment Supply- Installation, Testing & Commissioning-Warranty 24 months, Maintenance 25 years

The L3 / L4 Signalling System

• Technical solution based on

-Generic ETCS Alstom developments and ATLAS projects under realisation at the time of the contract signature in othercountries, now in operation: • Italy : Rome-Naples• Switzerland : Mattstetten-Rothrist• The Netherlands : Betuwe Route

- Products already in operation on Infrabel network : SSI interlocking, TFM object controllers, fibre optics data links, Jade track circuits

The L3 / L4 Signalling System

• With specific aspects

-Overlay of ETCS 1 and 2- Interface with HSL Zuid (at different levels : ATS, Interlocking,

ETCS)

• Including new developments

-Gateway for SSI-RBC interface-Gateway for RBC-RBC interface

Connection L4 – HSL Zuid

• Initial situation

-At the time of the contract, no European interface was specifiedfor the hand-over between RBCs (except the functional part)

-Thales (previously Alcatel) RBC and Alstom RBC did not use thesame protocols

-The border crossing was realised in two steps

Page 10: ERTMS/ETCS on Belgian High Speed Lines L3 and L4 · 17 – 19 March 2008 1 Fast track to Sustainable Mobility ERTMS/ETCS on Belgian High Speed Lines L3 and L4 Connection to the Netherlands

1017 – 19 March 2008

Connection L4 – HSL Zuid

• First step : level 1

-No level 2 / level 2 direct transition-Transition B-NL and NL-B through a pure level 1 area (available

as part of the fall-back system) at 160 km/h -Tested successfully beginning 2007

• Second step : RBC – RBC Gateway

- In parallel of the realisation of the first step, a gateway solution was decided, for protocol translation

-Hand-over management functions remain inside each RBC-First tests in October 2007, final tests with HSL Zuid beginning

2008

Conclusion

• With L3 L4 project, Alstom demonstrates its capability to

-Take advantage of the experience gained from previous projects-Offer the flexibility to solve specific issues (e.g. interfaces)-Manage projects in a multi-parties environment-Support its clients to manage evolution of specifications-Support its clients to manage system tests with trainborne systems from

different supplier

• And so to provide signalling solutions meeting customer’s requirements
