ERNST-REUTER-SCHULE Educational Concept Covering
Development from Kindergarten up to
International University Entrance
Qualification
This is a concept that we are pleased and proud to make public, commencing this school year 2018/2019; from Kindergarten through an internationally recognized university entrance qualification.
The German Embassy School follows a German State Curriculum
from classes 1 to 10, leading to an official examination qualifying
the candidates for further education in the upper classes 11 and 12
for the mixed language International Baccalaurate Diploma
Programme, which is also offered at our school in Ankara.
In addition to the intensive maths and science courses taught in our
school, a large number of language courses are available. German
and English are the teaching languages, plus Turkish, French,
Spanish.
The humanities, music, arts and sports play a vital role in the
curriculum. Special intensive language courses for German and
English are offered to those students who need help in achieving
the required standard of fluency.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
IB Diploma Programme DP Model
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is a challenging two-year pre-university curriculum, primarily
aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It leads to a qualification (the IB diploma) that is widely
recognized by the world?s leading universities, including the Federal Republic of Germany.
In 1968 the first programme offered by the IB, the Diploma Programme, was established. It
sought to provide a challenging yet balanced education that would facilitate geographic and
cultural mobility by providing an internationally recognized university entrance qualification that
would also serve the deeper purpose of promoting intercultural understanding and respect.
The students applying to join the IB Diploma Programme in The ERS- Ankara School, will be
accepted after fulfilling one of the following requirements:
a. a successful entrance assessment test after the 10th grade from German Curriculum
b. having the right to attend the ?sixth form college? (German Oberstufe)
c. Transferring from another IB School to the ERS-Ankara.
The IB is not only an internationally recognized university entrance qualification, but also the
whole concept is designed to address the needs of internationally mobile students.
Students are required to study languages, sciences, mathematics and ?individual and societies?
subjects, allowing for a depth of knowledge in some subjects acquiring a broader range in
others. As a result, this programme encourages students across the world to become active,
compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences,
can also be right. The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and
caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural
understanding and respect.

Approaches t o Teaching &
Learning Sk il ls (ATL): - ATL are deliberate strategies, skills and attitudes
that are passed on by the IB teaching and learning
environment.
- ATL supports the IB belief that students?
education is not only what they learn but also
how they learn. Teaching students how to learn by
themselves has always been a part of IB teaching.
The skills to be assessed:
- Thinking skills
- Communications skills
- Social skills
- Self-management skills
- Research skills
The st at em ent m ission of ERS The mission of The Privatschule der Deutschen Botschaft (ERS) is to
prepare students to become life-long learners and positive contributors
to their local and global communities. Tolerance, a sense of
responsibility, respect for other cultures, the environment and nature
characterise all of our thinking and actions. Politely dealing with one
another and helpfulness are as important as motivation and skillfulness. The students will be able to compete with others internationally in
several different fields and will be flexible in adapting to new situations.
Int ernat ional-Mindedness in IB International-mindedness is the key to having a better understanding, appreciation of one another and respecting the others ideas; in fact, it is
a way of thinking. In today?s troubled world, international-mindedness
may be the best way to convey a brighter and more peaceful future.
Academ ic Honest y The school ensures that the students understand the importance of being honest and fair in all that they do.
