Ernies Falcon Down a long driveway in Bell Block, New Plymouth is Ernie’s Engineering. It is not the place you expect to find an “XY” Falcon with a state of the art engine that had its beginnings in an off shore power boat. The engine is only part of this machine. Ernie was showing me the electronics and suspension running the car, which, are straight from the Aussie V8 Supercars along with a bunch of other stuff that would take too long to mention. Needless to say, the car is Ernie’s project which has taken him over 5 years to get to this stage. He has spent lots of everything on this car and I would say that it won’t stop here. Ernie is definitely a Ford fan, and for those of you who prefer the red label, you will still be suitably impressed. Under the cover in the photo is a 1973 “XA” 4 door Falcon GT which has just had another engine installed and out of sight he has a 1970 “XY” GTHO Phase 3 which he bought in 1974 to tow the dragster he had at the time. It was too hard to get the photo of that car due to the other XY bodies that were parked around it. First race for the car is the end of October in the GTR NZ class. If you want to know more about the car, contact Ernie and he will fill you with enthusiasm for these machines. Welcome to Incognito. The information following is intended as an informative spread about people and their creative ideas or projects that have been tucked away and we think it would be great to let you know about them. Travelling around NZ you see some amazing things that people have created or projects that are awaiting their personal time and efforts. The name Incognito was chosen as the heading for this spread because it is only when you find these “Projects” that you really find out about what makes these people tick and see the other side of who they really are. The contact details are there if you feel the need to express an interest and if you know of a project or interesting idea that deserves mentioning, please contact us. APS Tooling Team – www.apstools.co.nz [email protected] – 0800 648742 ISSUE 2 - OCTOBER 2012 Amazing old generator Graham from Eric Jepson Ltd in Napier will be 81 in January 2013. He has been involved in the company his father started, since 1947. Repairing and providing service for Lister and Detroit users throughout the greater Hawks Bay area. He works Monday-Friday from 7.30am till 6.00pm. Saturdays he starts a little later, finishes a little earlier but can also be found on Sundays, at work, supporting needy clients. The picture below is of a generator from the 1930’s, about as old as Graham, and still doing about the same hours. Graham told me that the generator is used on a sheep station on the East Cape and is the most remote generator he knows of in that area. It is used to power the Shearing Shed. When it comes to Listers and Detroits, I think Graham would have 90% of the spare parts on the shelves and he doesn’t require the manuals for finding what part is needed or where it will be in his store. You would think that at 80 odd years you would want to kick back and relax, but as one of his staff commented, “I think Graham would seize up and frizzle away”. Just like the old generator, he keeps going and provides the service that his clients expect. If you have a niggling problem with a Detroit or Lister engine (or any engine) give Graham a call.
