So what was
our Vision/Goal
& what was our
Mission?
Vision/Goal:
Dealing with rubbish and refuse at
Mangakahia Area School in a positive
way to uphold the values of
enviroschools and allow us to become
a Minimal Waste Organisation that will
contribute to a sustainable future within
our school.
Mission:We will encourage students within
Mangakahia Area School to accept
ownership and guardianship
(kaitiaki) throughout Mangakahia
Area School, so they will display
positive attitudes that will assist in
creating a minimal waste future for
the school and contribute towards a
sustainable future.
How did it all
begin?
As far as we can
tell we think that
Darone’s thought
process was
something like this:
And so the All
Weather
Recycling Station
was born
We then had to decide:
How does this action
relate to the 4 Aspects
of Sustainability?
Diagram showing 4 Aspects of Sustainability
And the Interdependence between them.
The 4
Aspects of
Sustainability
Environmental
CulturalSocial
Economical
•This whole school will be involved
in this action as will individuals
from outside the school, creating
links between the different year
groups within Mangakahia Area
School and links with
organisations and the community
outside Mangakahia Area School.
Social
•We have done this as a school
project and through that we have
been able to apply for funding
and financial aid to assist in our
project. We are also budgeting
and logging all expenses in a
ledger book.
Economical
•This action will focus the
school towards becoming
more sustainable and will
implement a more sustainable
recycling system within our
school.
Environmental
•Tangata whenua ‘The cleaners
of the land’ and kaitiaki –‘Guardianship of the school and
land’ will also be very important
to us while planning and
implementing this action.
Cultural
Landscaping began
Which also meant that
the paperwork and
hours of collaborative
discussion began
Then the building
began
Profiling and
boxing were the
first steps
Then came the
concreting
Meanwhile I was
concentrating on my
personal action of Promoting
the All Weather Recycling
Station. This involved
organising the Opening Day
Ceremony of the All Weather
Recycling Station.
This involved
creating posters
and flyers and
talking to the
different classes
