With nearly 20 years of experience in the Content Acquisition industry since the introduction of the first integrated Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) system in 1996, Ericsson is the market leader in providing solutions to cover ground-breaking events.

Our skills and expertise were behind the coverage of the most watched single event ever – Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997 with 2.5 billion viewers, as well as ‘The Fight of the Century’ - the 2015 Mayweather vs. Pacquiao professional boxing match, among others.

Ericsson’s Content Acquisition solution enables news organizations, content owners, broadcasters and service providers to capture and transmit live content from remote locations or venues into the studio over ad-hoc satellite or fiber links.

It consists of best of breed products from its Video Processor and Integrated Receiver Decoder families, including Professional Services such as 24/7 monitoring and support from the Compression Services organization.

Evolving NeedsAs customers drive the demand for larger monitors, content owners seek solutions that maximize the value of content through greater content quality. LCD monitors continue to grow in size, contributing to the need for Ultra High Definition content creation.

Expanding services and supporting future technologies such as UHDTV and High Dynamic Range can be extremely costly for content owners, broadcasters and service providers. Ericsson is able to meet the needs of this highly complex and evolving market by providing a solution based on products that are re-purposable and can be used regardless of location or transmission technology, maximizing return on investment for service providers.

Reduce costs through Remote Production

The pressure for cost reduction has also led to the increasing interest in using Remote Production. This approach requires all the cameras and audio sources to be brought back to the broadcast center where the video and audio mixing can be performed, as well as the commentary, subtitles and graphics added. This avoids the expense of sending a production truck and whole production team to the venue.

The technical challenge is to accurately and reliably maintain synchronization between all the camera and audio feeds over the transmission channel. Ericsson’s product portfolio is uniquely positioned to meet the demands of Remote Production:

Ericsson AVP 2000 Contribution or AVP 3000 Voyager Encoders can be configured to give the same encoding latency, while AVP 1000 Stream Processor multiplexes all the video and audio feeds in to a single stream for transmission. At the broadcast center, Ericsson RX8200 Advanced Modular Receivers give the necessary consistency in decoding delay.

Products and ServicesAVP 3000 Voyager (Digital Satellite News Gathering)

The AVP 3000 Voyager by Ericsson is the latest incarnation of the market leading Voyager product for live news, sports and entertainment, delivering multi-codec, multi-format and multi-channel operations. It is suited to ad-hoc events where content needs to be acquired at remote locations.

It supports all main encoding formats and connectivity to both IP and satellite networks. The AVP 3000 is future proofed, with an upgrade path to HEVC, which delivers maximum flexibility and return on investment.

AVP 2000 Contribution Encoder

The AVP 2000 Contribution Encoder is an advanced video processing platform for contribution and distribution applications, suitable for planned events being captured over fixed infrastructures. Modular hot swappable design gives maximum operational flexibility and productivity with new levels of density.
