• Selectivity: the double-track strategy

• Intervention only where market failures exist

• Support to innovation demand and technology transfer• Focus on human capital• International evaluation for regional call for proposals (FP6 evaluators)• Enhanced cooperation in R&D with other Italian Regions (agreement between Piemonte, Lombardia, and Emilia, with Umbria,

and with Sardegna Regions)

Double track: sectors of intervention

• SCIENCE PUSH– Life-science and

biotechnology– Nanotechnology and

advanced production processes

– New materials– Alternative energies– Social and juridical sciences

applied to the Region’s attractiveness

• TECHNOLOGY PULL–Environmental safety–Agro-industry sector and product traceability

–Advanced health services –Advanced logistics–Aerospace –Intelligent and sustainable mobility

–Creative and multimedia companies

–Heritage conservation and transformation

• Calls for proposals with high minimum size of research project and implying a strong cooperation between Universities/research centres and enterprises.

• Creation of regional technology platforms in key regional sectors

• Living Labs• Researchers as main vector of technology transfer: researcher

internship program in enterprises

• Support to high education programs and to PhD students’ mobility

Measures of intervention

The Innovation Poles are coordination structures among different actors of a specific sector

set up for providing services with a high added value and infrastructure for innovation.

The aim is to stimulate the request for innovation, while promoting the outlining of technological and strategic

problems (logistical, planning and marketing ones) to be faced jointly.

INOVATION POLES

14

Each Pole has to put together a significant number of enterprises.

The actors of the Innovation Pole jointly define the strategies for the investments and development of the Pole itself.

The participation of research bodies is not compulsory.

Each Innovation Pole defines a managing body with the task of activities coordination.

The Innovation Poles’ managing actors are juridical bodies acting in the regional territory with the task of coordination among the

different actors of a specific sector.
