Vacation
Our current school term ends this Friday and while I am
always happy to have a break and spend more time with my
family – this term we ALL need a break to better look after
our health. We have had a couple of nasty bugs at school
and everyone needs some time to recharge and get healthy,
so the holidays are coming at exactly the right time.
There is NOT a staff development day at the beginning of
next term – school begins for students and teachers on
Monday 14 October. Have a safe and relaxing break.
Kindergarten 2020
We need to finalise our Kindergarten enrolments for 2020
early next term. We have orientation sessions occurring on
Monday 4 November and Monday 11 November and need
to know our total numbers prior to these dates. If you have
a child starting next year, or know a neighbour that hasn’t
informed the school, please do so quickly.
I also hope to identify the 2020 Kindergarten teachers be-
fore the orientation dates so that you will have a chance to
meet them on the day.
Twilight Food Festival
A big thank you to Angela, Beth and the P & C for organizing
the wonderful food festival last Friday evening. It was great
to see so many members of community connecting with
neighbours and friends. The memorabilia display in 1P class-
room was busy all night with past students and families
laughing over old photos, work samples and report cards. It
was another great event to help celebrate 50 years of BRPS!
Regards ,
David Leydon
Deputy Principal’s Report
What an amazing term we have had! Last week I went to
the semi-final for the Hills Public Speaking Competition. I
have to say that in the time I have been at Beresford Road,
the standard of public speaking has risen enormously. It has
become another thing at which we excel. It is a pity that is
not measured by NAPLAN as we would do well. We have
two students going through to the grand final next term and
two highly commended, but even back at school, the stand-
ard was amazing.
Watch this space Maker Space
We have converted our primary wash shed into a maker
space (STEM room).

What is a maker space?
Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply
engage in science, engineering and tinkering. A maker space is not solely a science lab, woodshop, computer lab or art room,
but it may contain elements found in all of these familiar spaces.
What is happening at BRPS?
We have relocated the bubblers to the outside and removed the seating around the outside of the old wash shed. We have
painted the space and put lino on the floor, fixed the windows, installed new lights and put in a new door and window on the
3-6 quad side. We are going to put a roller door on the outside so students can spill out onto the quad while they are cre-
ating. The P and C are purchasing an oven and cooktop so we can have cooking lessons in there. Thank you! We have
purchased a washing
machine and dryer so the students can learn life skills. We have purchased workbenches on wheels with storage, where the
students can create. We have purchased STEM kits as a starter so they can learn about properties of materials and
experiment with how things work. It will be a place to cook, a place to make, a place to design, a place to make a mess and a
place to learn how to clean up. It is so exciting!
I will update you as things continue next term.

Speaking Competition
Congratulations to Jaelen Sanchez and Harmonea Howell for getting through to the grand final for the Hills Public Speaking
Competition and Gauri Gautam and Lean El Jbeily for receiving a high commendation.
Congratulations also goes to Alexa Mouradian K-2 for her participation in the speaking competition.
Well Done Team Beresford !
Donate unwanted Woolworths seeds
Any unwanted or extra seeds from the Woolworths promotion would be gladly accepted over the next few weeks by Miss
Somerville, 4S or the Environment Group. We will be planting them this term and next so please feel free to bring them in.
4S students will come around to classes and collect any.
Thanks, Miss Somerville, 4S and the Environment Group

It is that time of year again when the playground begins buzzing with cartwheels and students practising their
talents. It is Beresford Idol time!
This year, to minimise students’ time out of class, we have decided to do the auditions a little differently. Students
wishing to audition this year are asked to record their audition at home. This audition video, as well as a cut
version of their music needs to be put on a labelled USB and handed to Miss Pannucci or Miss Woollard by Week
3, Term 4. Please put the USB in a zip lock bag labelled with your child ’s name and class.
We encourage students to get together during the holidays and keep rehearsing their items. We look forward to
seeing all the acts for this year’s Beresford Idol.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email either [email protected] or kari-
Good Luck,
Miss Pannucci and Miss Woollard
