51. Detail any five Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges (SWOC) of the
Faculty. Strengths:
EVALUATIVE REPORT OF FACULTY OF LAW
• The demand for Law graduates has increased tremendously in recent years. Many students desire to study law to join the legal profession. Jamia Millia Islamia is the only Central University in the Capital which offers a five year integrated BA.LLB.( Hons) programme. This aspect attracts students from different parts of the country to seek admission in our Faculty.
• As the five year Law programme offered by the Faculty opens admission to only those students who have completed the 10+2 level or equivalent level of school study, the students who are finally admitted through the entrance test remain highly committed and focussed in their pursuit of legal education. This aspect is reflected in the quality of Law graduates who pass out from the University.
• In the five year Law programme, non-law subjects, such as, economics, sociology, political science and history, are taught to students in the first year. This enables the students to study law with an inter-disciplinary approach which helps them understand the relevance of law to the society.
• The faculty has a resourceful library with well-defined journal and reference books sections. • The semester system of pursuing the Law programme has proved very advantageous for the
students as well as the Faculty members. It keeps both the teachers and students busy in meeting deadlines. This has
• greatly contributed towards enhancing the level of professionalism of the course. • We are happy to submit that all our students get absorbed in jobs or start their independent
practice. They are groomed in a manner that they can compete with the best of law graduates present in the mainstream, both at the National and International levels. Our alumni have made an indelible mark in the various sectors of the legal profession,
• One of the most notable features of our Faculty is that the students come from diverse background..This helps the students to learn from each other and develop in a healthy way. It inculcates feelings of love, affection and togetherness amongst them.
• The Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, has gained tremendous recognition at the National and International levels. At the National level it has been rated as 11th best professional college of the country.
• All the Faculty members of the Faculty of Law have doctorate degrees to their credit. They have acquired specialisations in diverse areas of law and continue upgrading themselves.
Weaknesses:
• There is a paucity of Faculty members which needs to be addressed soon. • There should be more resourses allocated for enriching the library. • Since our Law course is regulated by the Bar Council of India rules and the rules require that
the Faculty of Law should have a separate building. It is therefore, essetial for us to have a separate building.
• Weneed to strengthen the involvement of our Alumni to help enhance the quality of legal education.
52 Future Plans:
• To place our students into satisfying jobs after they complete their legal education. • To focus on research in contemporary socio-legal issues. • To identify and admit students who are most likely to succeed.
EVALUATIVE REPORT OF FACULTY OF LAW
• To increase the intake of our students. • To recruit and retain Faculty and staff that contributes to our vision of supporting scholars
and teachers striving to be at the top of the field. • To strengthen innovative methodologies that will enable our students to thrive in a changing
professional environment. • To create centres of excellence, such as, centres of natural resources, energy and
environmental law, technology and intellectual property law, etc. • To introduce self-financing courses to generate revenue for the expansion of the Faculty of
Law. • To introduce short term law courses for the industry sector and the NGO sector. • To introduce diploma courses in Cyber law, Environmental law, Labour law. Corporate law,
etc. • To engage our alumni more effectively for creating more opportunities for our students. • To revive the three year LL. B. Course. • To start Post-Graduate Courses opening up new streams in emerging socio-legal fields.
Setting up within the Faculty, specialized Courses/Centres forTraining and Research in: • Information Technology and Cyber Laws • Intellectual Property Rights • Human Rights, International Humanitarian Lawand Refugee Law • International Taxation • Insurance Law • International Commercial Arbitration • Personal Laws • Environmental Studies/Law • Corporate Law and Corporate Governance • Criminal Justice Administration • Forensic Science • Law and Medicine • Opening an Institute for Training and Research for Law Teachers to emerge as a
Pioneer Institute in bringing out the best law teachers in the country. • Opening a Documentation Centre for Islamic Jurisprudence (Library). • Establishment of a Resource Centre in the Law Library at the Faculty. • To bring out an Annual publication titled as the ‘Jamia Law Journal’
