Dr Vivienne Colegrove is a couple and family counsellor, and music therapist in Eltham and Yarrambat. She has many years experience in supporting children, teenagers and adults to achieve relational healing, including where grief, stressful or traumatic events may have caused relationship wounds. Vivienne draws on a range of evidence-based approaches, including the emotion coaching and emotion-focussed methods developed by Dr John Gottman and Dr Sue Johnson. She believes strongly that the willingness to learn and use the skills of ‘emotional intelligence’ in our closest relationships is key in not only healing hurts, but to creating the best relationships possible. When working with trauma, she draws on additional techniques that attend to the unique physical, emotional, mental and relational challenges faced by those who have been exposed to family violence, childhood abuse or other adverse events. Vivienne uses music and Theraplay®-informed practice to help parents and children connect to and communicate their emotions to each other. Music is not only a fun and engaging way to work with feelings, but also creates a safe way to express and process feelings nonverbally. For her recently completed PhD studies, Vivienne developed and tested a unique way of working with families called Tuning Relationships with Music™, and found that it was an effective way of helping parents and their teens improve their relationship and reduce conflict. Vivienne is committed to offering affordable counselling to families and couples; including consession rates for those on a low income, and a reduced rate between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Rebates are available through private health insurance. Vivienne is available for appointments on Tuesdays at Rivers of Yarrambat.
