Principal’s Message
W e are heading rapidly towards the end of Semester 1. A part of this process is parent/carer interviews with Semester 1 reports a catalyst for conversation.
These will be scheduled in Weeks 9 and 10. Even though we have a had a state wide mandated assessment scale put up alongside our students for some time it continues to cause confusion. The assessment of achievements are listed below and will be on the front of every report, except Kindergarten, for reference.
Assessment of Achievement Outstanding: The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these to new situations. High: The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations. Achieved: The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills. Developing: The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a basic level of competence in the processes and skills. Limited: The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in some of the processes and skills.
Assessment of Effort Effort is shown using the scale 5 4 3 2 1 from most effort to least effort. Therefore if your child receives an Achieved they’re right on the money as to where they need to be. For those of us that are visual beings the insert to the right; Report Grades And What They Mean, might help to bring clarity.
Attention students who are singing with the Semitones Choir. Please bring your sheet music with you to Choir at the KPS hall this Friday, 21 June 10am-11am.

Cross Country
Good luck to our amazing cross
country runners Jasmine, Alexis,
Chayce and Cruz; who will
travel to Nana Glen this Friday
for the Regional Cross Country.
Far North Coast Dance Festival Last fortnight our FNCDF group travelled to the Gold Coast to participate in the dance festival. The participated in a day time rehearsal and performed in front of a large audience on the night. They girls were magical to watch. I could not be prouder of the amazing effort they put in to creating such an outstanding performance. Well done!!
Last Friday, the Girls’ Basketball Team travelled to Goonellabah for the PSSA Girls Knockout Competition. On our arrival we were greeted by competitors from numerous Lismore district schools. Our team was feeling nervous yet very excited for the experience. It quickly became apparent from the onset that being tall is a distinct advantage. Even though the KPS Basketball Team was not the overall winners on points, they sure did have a great day and learnt a lot about basketball skills. A big thankyou to all parents and carers who assisted on the day by having students arrive at school early and with transport. Also thank you to Haley and Dave Kennedy for the use of their van and to Meegan for driving most of the players to this event.
T his morning our boys and girls soccer teams played against Wyrallah Road at the High School oval. A very
exciting game was played with the girls team having no score for either team until finally scoring a fantastic game winning goal by Jasmine in the last 15 minutes of the game!! Great work girls, this takes you to the next round in the PSSA soccer challenge. The boys played a very challenging game against a great Wyrallah Road team, with Wyrallah winning the game 2-0. A terrific morning watching these awesome KPS players.
