It’s TRBA’s new Evangelistic Block Party Trailer, built by the Timothy Institute for Evangelism (TIE) in Oklahoma City and pro- vided as a gift to the association by the Bap- tist General Convention of Texas. The trailer and contents, worth more than $20,000, was delivered by Tim Knopps of TIE during TRBA’s Aug. 9 Executive Board meeting at Mt. Calvary Baptist of Marysee. Knopps led volunteers to unpack the trailer and set up all the equipment for a “mock block party” on the grounds of the church. The evening’s program featured Knopps’ ABC’s on how to use the trailer effectively for outreach and evangelism (see page 3). The trailer was on display during the Aug. 27 Men Alive Outdoor Expo at the TVE Fair- grounds. Dave Merrell led a team that set up and demonstrated the trailer’s contents. First Devers was the first church to take advantage of the new resource, scheduling it for use on Wednesday, Sept. 7. To schedule the trailer, contact Theresa Adair at 936-336-9232. The TRBA website (www.TRBATexas.org) has links to videos and written guidelines for using the trailer. Churches that want to use the trailer need to have their team watch the videos and go over the guidelines. (More photos on page 2.) More than 35 area restaurants and busi- nesses are partnering with TRBA to honor first responders with a Sept. 9 breakfast. The First Responders Appreciation Breakfast will be served 6:30-8:30 a.m. at the City of Liberty Fire Station, 1912 Lake- land Dr. “Barbara Alford of Hardin Baptist is leading the effort and has been instrumen- tal in engaging so many community part- ners,” said David Williams, TRBA director of missions. “She is passionate about this ministry because her husband Sam has been in law enforcement for 45 years.” Williams said businesses and churches are participating in a variety of ways. “Some restaurants are giving eggs or sausage or bacon or biscuits or pancakes,” he said. “Others are cooking the donated food. Others are giving money. Others are giving door prizes. It seems that everyone who finds out we are having this breakfast wants to help.” Williams also expressed appreciation to local media who have been helping publi- cize the event, including the Liberty Ga- zette, the Liberty Vindicator, Dayton News, and KSHN radio station. KSHN has had nu- merous reports and public service an- nouncements and featured the event during a recent Party Line program hosted by Bill Buchanan. In addition, the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce has published the invitation poster on their website. 442 attend Men Alive, 14 commit to Christ Drawn to the TVE Fairgrounds Aug. 27 by the prospects of a free day of family fun, a total of 442 registered for the second Men Alive Outdoor Expo, more than twice as many as last year. After a message by Jay Lowder, evangelist, 14 persons registered commitments to Christ. Competitors enjoyed the BB contest for kids and the archery shoot. But the highlight was the cook-off between five teams which provided all the meat for the free lunch. Churches added donations of potato salad, beans, bread, and homemade desserts. Several TRBA churches, area ministries, and the Gideons set up informational tables. City of Liberty Fire Department provided a fire engine for inspection. TRBA’s new Evan- gelistic Block Party Trailer was on display with its bounce houses and games set up. TRBA’s booth gave away 50 EvangeCubes. Line Camp Cowboy Church’s worship band provided music during lunch. After the speaker, there was a drawing for 60 door prizes. Top prizes were a duck hunt and fishing trip, each valued at $400. TRBA block party trailer ready for churches to use Sitting in Judgment Judging the cook-off entries are, left to right, County Commis- sioner Greg Arthur, Bill Bucahanan of KSHN, and David Williams of TRBA. Their verdict: “Delicious!”

sioner Greg Arthur, Bill Bucahanan of KSHN,

and David Williams of TRBA. Their verdict: “Delicious!”

One of the exciting things about being on mission is ex-

periencing unexpected blessings from God along the way.

The blessings are diverse and come in various ways. When they come, you know

that they are from the Lord. Let me share with you some recent blessings.

Mission JourneyMission Journey

When Mitch Wilson from the Baptist General Convention of Texas led us in an evangelism training event last year, he asked if there was anything else we needed. I mentioned a couple of things and added that “the big ask would be an evangelistic block party trailer.” I didn’t really expect Mitch to consider it, but he said, “I’ll work on that.” Months went by and Mitch left his position to start a church. I checked with BGCT to see if our request was still under consideration. Joshua del Risco, the new evangelism leader, followed up and we received our trailer in August. Praise the Lord! Another blessing came in the tremen-dous response to our Men Alive Outdoor Expo as attendance was more than double last year’s and several trusted Christ. We are working to improve the event each year. This time we had more cook-off teams, more churches and ministries with exhibitor tables, and an archery shoot. And we had a fire engine. Next year we are praying the Lord will provide us some “outdoor interest” exhibi-tors and more cook-off teams. We’ll also

consider expanding the competitions. It has been suggested that we have an arch-ery contest for kids in which we provide the equipment. And someone suggested a casting contest. Another blessing came when Barbara Alford stepped up to take leadership of the First Responders Appreciation Breakfast. Her passion and local ties resulted in broad participation from the community, consid-erably strengthening the event. And Line Camp Cowboy Church can tell you a thing or two about unexpected bless-ings from God. What was once a dream and then a small Bible study in a home is now a full-fledged church with a growing congregation reaching new people for Christ week after week. They now have a piece of land where they will soon build their first arena.

Looking for God’s blessings, David Williams

The ABC’s of an effective evangelistic block party Tim Knopps of the Timothy Institute for Evangelism in Oklahoma City spoke at the TRBA Executive Board and offered these guidelines for using our new trailer.

Attract Attention There are five ways to attract atten-tion, the five senses (three S’s and two T’s) and the trailer includes ways to appeal to each of them: Sight — The trailer’s equipment is visually stimulating and can be seen for some distance, especially the trailer, bounce houses with primary colors and the white canopy tents. Sound — Use the sound system to play music continuously, loud enough to hear but not so loud that it drowns out conversation. Smell — Popcorn and food cooking on the grill will draw people in. Taste — Put people who can cook in charge of the grill and make sure everything tastes great. Touch — The games provide hands-on experience. Make sure everyone walks away with something in their hands — a tract, a Bible, a piece of candy, information about your church.

Build Bridges Look for opportunities to move the conversation from hot dogs to the Gospel.

Communicate Christ It’s not just a “party in a box.” It’s a witness wagon on wheels. Don’t ever forget that your purpose is to tell peo-ple about Jesus.

Determine a Decision Invite them to Bible study or worship. Ask if they would like to hear more about Jesus. Ask something that chal-lenges them to make a decision.

Evaluate the Event Discuss with your team what was good, what was not so good, and how to improve the next block party.

Follow up Faithfully You discovered some people loved by God. Seek to reach them for Christ.

Glorify God If the party is not to glorify God, then don’t do it at all.

(More photos on page 2.)

More than 35 area restaurants and busi-nesses are partnering with TRBA to honor first responders with a Sept. 9 breakfast. The First Responders Appreciation Breakfast will be served 6:30-8:30 a.m. at the City of Liberty Fire Station, 1912 Lake-land Dr. “Barbara Alford of Hardin Baptist is leading the effort and has been instrumen-tal in engaging so many community part-ners,” said David Williams, TRBA director of missions. It seems that everyone who finds out we are having this breakfast wants to help.” Williams also expressed appreciation to local media who have been helping publi-cize the event, including the Liberty Ga-zette, the Liberty Vindicator, Dayton News, and KSHN radio station. KSHN has had nu-

merous reports and public service an-nouncements and featured the event during a recent Party Line program hosted by Bill Buchanan. In addition, the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce has published the invitation poster on their website.
