FROM THE PRINCIPAL

WELL DONE JOSH

Recently the Zone Carnival for Athletics was completed. We sent representatives away to the event. Our students’

behaviour was exceptional and everyone competed hard. I would like to congratulate Joshua from Year 6 who won

both the 100 metre and 200 metre events. Josh will now represent at the Area Athletics. We wish Josh all the best at

the next level. I would like to thank Mrs Zammit, Miss Hill, Miss Ralton and Miss Ward for organising our Zone Team

and supervising them on the days.

GALA DAY

Congratulations to our Kinder – Year 2 students and teachers for organising a great Gala Day, despite the

challenges of the windy weather. The event was enjoyed by all including the many parents who came along to help

or to just cheer on the children. Thank you to the organising teachers Mrs Yoo, Mrs Supierz Miss Gilbert and Miss

Ward.

However I would like to thank all who helped out, including other staff and parents.

STAGE 3 CAMP

On Wednesday morning we farewell our Stage 3 students as they leave for their camp at Broken Bay Sport and

Recreation Site. The students will have a great time and be well supervised by Camp staff and our own teachers who

are accompanying them. Many parents may not be aware, but the teachers are on duty 24/7 and do not receive any

payment for doing this. Without the support of the teachers the camp could not go ahead. They sacrifice time from

their family, so please encourage your children to thank the teachers at the end of the camp.

PSSA SOCCER

Two weeks ago, the A team lost 6-0 to Epping Heights. The Player of the Match was Cate for her great passing. I really enjoyed our last PSSA soccer game. Joshua 6/5K

The B team won 1-0 against Epping Heights. It was our final match for this year and our second victory. The Players of the Match were Sheldon for his amazing goal and Leena for her terrific blocking when the opposing team tried to score. Calvin 6/5P

Fruit & Veg Month 2019

Our school has registered for Fruit & Veg Month 2019. The theme for this year is ‘The Adventures of Captain Fruit N Veg!’ It's all about linking eating fruit and vegetables with good times, superheroes, superpowers and adventures! Fruit & Veg Month 2019 runs for the last 4 weeks of Term 3, Monday 2nd to Friday 27th September. As part of Fruit & Veg Month, students will be involved in various classroom and school based activities which encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables.

INTERRELATE

An educational evening Interrelate provided an informative and age appropriate introduction to reproduction and puberty to our Year 3 to Year 6 students. The sessions, attended by students and accompanied by their parents/caregivers, are good at explaining this complex issue in an open, safe and factual way. There were 30+ students who came along to hear from specialist educator Gitta Johnson.

The P&C volunteers organise the Interrelate event once every two years as an important educational tool for our students. The educational sessions held on Tuesday 20 August 2019 provided lots of great information was to all. This is not a fundraising event and is purely an educational event provided by the school P&C.

Thank you to those who helped organise: Mrs Graham and Mr Ford from the teaching staff and Mrs Williams and Mrs Wilden from the P&C.

The next Interrelate evening will be held in two years’ time.

SPOOKY DISCO We are still seeking 2-3 parents from Stage 2 (Yrs 3 & 4) to coordinate this event. While this may seem like a long way off, a DJ does need to be booked soon. Held around late October (Wk 2 or 3, Term 4) this is a fun event many children look forward to. We’d love to hear from some new coordinators. Previous coordinators are more than happy to meet up and share their learnings. If you are interested and would like to know more, please contact Marissa Kelly: [email protected]

HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY Wishing all our dads, grandads and father figures a Happy Fathers Day this Sunday! Our stall was kept busy with many customers. A full report will be provided in next week’s newsletter. A big thank you to Yr 1 mum, Mira Tang for coordinating.

These events simply cannot happen year after year without new coordinators stepping forward.

CANTEEN

Canteen Menu Changes - Coming Soon!!

The Canteen Committee is reviewing the canteen menu to ensure it meets the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy by the end of 2019. This is a requirement placed on all government schools.

Some changes to our current menu will be required to ensure:

there are NO sugar-sweetened drinks, ice-blocks or energy drinks at least 75% of the menu comprises Everyday choices, and no more than 25% Occasional choices any packaged Occasional foods and drinks have a health star rating of 3.5 stars or above portion controls on all Occasional choices and some Everyday choices.

* Everyday foods are those made from food in the five food groups (see the food chart). Everyday drinks are water and milk. * Occasional foods and drinks are mostly high in saturated fat, sugars and/or salt and often with little nutritional value.

Last week, four members of the Canteen Committee attended the Healthy Kids Association Expo to talk to food suppliers about some tasty & healthy alternatives. We were able to taste-test some options and have brought back some samples to get some feedback from students! Keep watching this space as we update you on menu changes! EPS Canteen Committee
