ePMPOverview

Goals for the ePMP Product Line

• Offer a Product to compete in the “Low Cost” Segment of the Outdoor Broadband Equipment Market

– Segment defined and dominated by Ubiquiti (and Mikrotik to a lesser extend)

• Achieving Price Targets is paramount:

– CPE < $100 Street Price

– Access Point equipment with <= 6 month payback for <= 10 low ARPU subs

• Providing a Robust, Reliable, Scalable Solution that would live up to Cambium’s reputation and enhance the brand

– Technical Foundation for that is GPS Synchronization

– But there is more than just that to ePMP

ePMPPTP Mode of Operation

ePMP Advantages in PTP Mode• PTP Applications

– ePMP SM scalability advantages are not a factor

– GPS Sync capability can be used to good effect, but not usually employed

– However, ePMP MAC protocol design and efficiency produces significant advantages in consistent throughput under interference

32

• UBNT (Airmax):

– PTP Master does not control PTP Slave

retransmissions

– Under interference and load, PTP Slave

retransmissions collide with PTP Master

transmissions

– Effective throughput has double negative

impact by interference & retransmit collisions

• ePMP (Flexible Mode):

– PTP Master controls both

transmissions and

retransmissions from Slave

– Intelligent retransmission

minimizes impact of

interference

ePMPQOS & VoIP Advantage

Quality of Service (QoS)

ePMP Supports 3 Priority Levels1. Voice Priority (Always Highest when Enabled)2. High Priority3. Low Priority

• Unicast Traffic assigned to a priority level by L2/L3 packet markings• Broadcast/Multicast Traffic can be configured to be High or Low Priority• Data is scheduled for OTA Transmission according to its priority

Prioritization Can be Altered by SM Priority

SM Priority• Normal - No Change to Data Priority

• High - All non-Voice Ingress (Uplink) Traffic Treated as High Priority

• Low - All non-Voice Ingress (Uplink) Traffic Treated as Low Priority

L2 Markings: VLAN, CoS, EtherType, MAC / L3 Markings: IP, DSCP

VOIP on ePMP

40

ePMP utilizes the following mechanisms for VOIP delivery

• DL/UL automatic prioritization of VOIP packets within the queues of the radio.

• High priority/ more frequent bandwidth allocation to SMs carrying VOIP traffic

• Ability of SMs to request bandwidth by “piggy backing” on existing data transfer such as VOIP. This reduces overhead of a dedicated poll response

STA can send VOIP packet but also request BW for the next voippacket by piggy backing. This allows AP to schedule the STA sooner

IPTV on ePMP

• ePMP Solution provides so much consistent performance that operators are planning IPTV deployments over wireless!

• New ePMP Feature provides for reliable Multicast over wireless:

– AP & SM perform IGMP Snooping and restrict multicast transmission only to air links that require them

– Saves RF Resources

41Copyright 2015 Cambium Networks, Ltd. All rights reserved.

ePMPeCommand

eCommand – Plan, Provision and Monitor

• A suite of management tools to plan, provision and monitor the ePMP network

• Providing operators with the ability to confidently deploy high performance networks, with greater visibility and control

• An Area of Focus for future Software Enhancements for the ePMP Portfolio

43Copyright 2015 Cambium Networks, Ltd. All rights reserved.

Estimate Performance: ePMP Capacity Planner

• Excel-based Tool that provides a details about the performance you can expect from the ePMP.

• Estimate the throughput and capacity that an ePMP Access Point can provide based on:

– Distance of SMs from the AP

– Transmit power levels

– Antenna gains and

– Expected level of interference in the environment.
