LECTORS & INTERCESSORS AT MASS TODAY !

!THE COLLECT O God, our heavenly Father, who raised up your faithful servant David, to be a bishop and pastor in your Church and to feed your flock: Give abundantly to all pastors the gifts of your Holy Spirit, that they may minister in your household as true servants of Christ and stewards of your divine mysteries; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. !THE FIRST READING: !READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Book

of Leviticus Chapter 19 beginning at the 1st verse.

The LORD said to Moses, "Say to all the congregation of the people of Israel, You shall be holy; for I the LORD your God am holy. "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field to its very border, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the LORD your God.  "You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. And you shall not swear by my name falsely, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.  "You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning. You shall not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear your God: I am the LORD. "You shall do no injustice in

judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor. You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand forth against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD.  "You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason with your neighbor, lest you bear sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.  Reader: Here ends the Reading. ALL: Thanks be to God. !!PSALM 71:16-24 !16. I will begin with the mighty works of the Lord God; * I will recall your righteousness, yours alone. 17. O God, you have taught me since I was young, * and to this day I tell of your wonderful works. 18. And now that I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not

forsake me, * till I make known your strength to this generation and your power to all who are to come.

19. Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens;* you have done great things; who is like you, O God? 20. You have showed me great troubles and adversities, * but

you will restore my life and bring me up again from the deep places of the earth.

21. You strengthen me more and more;* you enfold and com fort me, !22. Therefore I will praise you upon the lyre for your faithfulness,

O my God;* I will sing to you with the harp, O Holy One of Israel.

23. My lips will sing with joy when I play to you, * and so will my soul, which you have redeemed. 24. My tongue will proclaim your righteousness all day long, * for they are ashamed and disgraced who sought to do me harm. !V. Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; R. As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen !!!!!!THE EPISTLE !A Reading from the Word of God written in the First Letter to the Corinthians Chapter 3 beginning at the 10th verse.

According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are. Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." So let no one boast of men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apol'los or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future, all are yours; and you are Christ's; and Christ is God's.  !Reader: Here ends the Reading. ALL: Thanks be to God.

THE HOLY GOSPEL !The Lord be with you.

And also with you. !A Reading from the Holy Gospel

according to Matthew Glory to Christ our Saviour.

At that time, Jesus said, "You have heard that it was said, `An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to him who begs from you, and do not refuse him who would borrow from you. "You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbor and

hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

The Gospel of Christ Praise to Christ our Lord. !!

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: !This year St. David’s Day (March 1st) falls outside of the Lenten season. This gives us the opportunity to go beyond the observance of the day alone to having special services during the week as we celebrate our patron saint. !St. David (c. 500 – c. 589) is one of the very popular saints of the church. According to the website http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=220 He was ordained a priest and later studied under St. Paulinus. Later, he was involved in missionary work and founded a number of monasteries. !The monastery he founded at Menevia in Southwestern Wales was noted for extreme asceticism. He was reportedly consecrated archbishop by the patriarch of Jerusalem while on a visit to the Holy Land. !The Monastic Rule of David prescribed that monks had to pull the plough themselves without draught animals, must drink only water and eat only bread with salt and herbs, and spend the evenings in prayer, reading and writing. !No personal possessions were allowed: even to say "my book" was considered an offense. He lived a simple life and practised asceticism, teaching his followers to refrain from eating meat and drinking beer. !It is claimed that David lived for over 100 years, and that he died on a Tuesday 1 March (now St David's Day). !According to legend his last words to his followers were in a sermon on the previous Sunday. The Welsh Life of St David gives these as: "Be joyful, and keep your faith and your creed, and do the little things that you have seen me

do and heard about. I will walk the path that our fathers have trod before us.” !David was buried at St David's Cathedral at St David's, Pembrokeshire, where his shrine was a popular place of pilgrimage throughout the Middle Ages. !David was faithful in his own time. Let us use the opportunities present to us to make the name of our Lord known in home and family life and all areas of human endeavor !Let us celebrate the feast of the patron saint of our parish by attending the various services this week. Let us listen attentively to messages from God brought by the respective preachers and let us give thanks to God for the discipline of Christianity. !!Your friend and priest, !Noel A. Burke, MA (The Rev’d Canon) Rector ! !
