“Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.”

--The Book of Common Prayer: The Collect for Thanksgiving Day

November is traditionally the month when we give thanks, as we look forward to the Thanksgiving Day celebrations toward the end of the month. At the Church of the Epiphany, we have much to be thankful for!

At the end of October, we gathered for an election of new vestry mem-bers and diocesan convention delegates. Thanks go to all those who were will-ing to be nominated for these important ministries, and thanks go to those who have served faithfully in the past. We look forward to the coming year, em-boldened and empowered to continue God’s work at Epiphany.

We give thanks for the joy of our Fall Festival, and for all the work that went into making it happen. We had fun with the Holy Ghost Weenie Roast, all the creative costumes, and the “Trunk-or-Treat.” Great fun (and lots of candy) was had by all!

We give thanks that Epiphany is an open and welcoming community; an inviting place to all those who are seeking a closer walk with God. We have seen in the last few months several new faces joining us for worship, mission and ministry. We are thankful for all these newcomers to our congregation, and hope to see them in our Inquirer’s/Confirmation Class.

Many of you know that in the celebration of Holy Eucharist, the other name for the communion portion of the service is “the Great Thanksgiving.” In other words, we are a people called by God to give thanks each and every week for the gifts we have received. We lift our hearts and minds to God, and speak with one voice in prayers of thanksgiving.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving celebration, and remember: keep giving thanks!

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Aaron+

FLOWERS AND CANDLES FOR 2017 The Altar Guild is planning for flowers and candles for 2017. This is a beautiful and thoughtful way to celebrate, and remember those in our lives who mean so much to us.

For your convenience, on Sunday, November 13th the Altar Guild will be in the Parish Hall after the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services with the signup sheets for the 2017 flowers and candles and Christmas poinsettias for 2016.

Please remember that these are done on a first come – first serve basis. Place your order now or after November 13th you may call Susan Armstrong @ 256-302-3801. If a flower date you would like is already spoken for, look at that same date on the candle list.

Rodney’s bills the Sunday altar flowers to each individual.

The candles dedications are $10.00 per date and are pay-able to the church. We appreciate your payment before dedication date so the church’s records and your year-end statement are correct. This helps the office mark your donation(s) properly and promptly. Please make your check payable to Epiphany and note that it is for candles and for what date.

Poinsettias for Christmas 2016

The Altar Guild is taking dedications for red Poinsettias. Each plant is $15.00.

Dedication forms are on the counter in the church office and will be in Sanderson Hall on November 13. This dedi-cation is a beautiful way to celebrate and remember those people who are special in our lives and to celebrate the birth of a baby born so long ago in a stable and under a starry sky.

We appreciate your payment when you sign up or no later than December 26th, so it can be processed for your year-end statement.

If you have any questions please call Susan Armstrong at 256-302-3801.

We will have a Service of Thanksgiving at Epiphany on Wednesday, November 23, at 5:30 p.m.

The second, 4-week Living Compass workshop entitled Mindful Eating will be offered at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evenings in the Woodall Commons throughout November. Mindful eating consists of slow-ing down and intentionally enjoying food while increasing your awareness of the social, cultural, moral, ecological, and spiritual dimensions of eating.

Living Well Through Advent 2016 booklets will be available within the next few weeks. The booklet contains readings and reflections for each day of Advent, which connect the Scriptures of the week to a life of wellness in the 21st century.

Stay tuned for future weekly bulletin announcements regarding sign-up for the Mindful Eating program and availability of the Living Well Through Advent 2016 booklets. Additional information and resources for adults, teens and parents can be found at Living Compass.
