What a year 2018 has been for the people of Peace

and the communities that make up Peace. We have

had moments of excitement and joy but also moments

of hurt and brokenness. I continue to be amazed at how

often we will join together to complete a task in front of

us, how we care for others who are in need of an extra

hand. I’m also amazed at how sometimes we dig our

heels in over the silliest of things but in the moment it

seems like the world might end if we don’t get what we

want when we want it.

14 So the Word became human and made

his home among us. He was full of unfailing love

and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory,

the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. -

John 1:14 (New Living Translation)

I like the imagery that is created by this translation - He

was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. God sent

Jesus into this world to take on flesh and bone so that

we could experience God’s unfailing love and

faithfulness first hand. How great of a reminder is that?

What would our lives and the lives of those around us

look like if we lived lives of love and faithfulness for all

people?

My prayer for 2019 is that we remember God’s

presence in our lives not only in the good times, when

we feel like prayers have been answered but also in the

times when we feel furthest from God. I pray that we

remember the promise that was made, the promise that

continues to be lived out that God is with us in all

things. God is in the midst of our brokenness, our hurt,

our joy and our success. I pray that we give thanks to

God for all things because in all things God works for

God’s people.

In 2019 how will you share God’s love with others? How

will you help others to be reminded of the Word that

became human and made his home among us?

There are some amazing things in the works for 2019 at

Peace and I hope that you will be a part of all that

happens. Know that you are loved beyond measure and

that is the greatest gift of all.

You are a blessing and you are blessed!

Shalom,

THOUGHTS FROM PASTOR BRAD

THANK YOU

On behalf of the cast of “Sorry! Wrong

Chimney” and the board of ACTs of

Peace Players, I want to thank you all

for the support you’ve shown us. We

are grateful for the audiences that

came, the work that was put into

making the stage a reality, the work

done by the volunteers taking tickets

and selling concessions and all the

other tasks that helped make this a

reality.

The biggest question people have

been asking is, “When’s the next

one?” We are in talks about the next

show and what it will be; as soon as

we have it figured out we will let you

know. We’ve also got some plans to

give back in different ways that you

might enjoy. More information to

come soon. For now – THANK YOU.

Pastor Brad

age.

Stay tuned for the exact dates

next month.

NEW MEMBER CLASS

There are several people who have

expressed interest in joining Peace

and we are excited! We will be

holding a new member event in late

February.

If you or someone you know would

like to become a member of Peace,

please take the first step of calling

the church office to give us your

contact information so we can make

sure you are included in the class.

If you have questions about joining

Peace, please talk with Pastor Brad.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Christmas Showtime! PLC Sunday Schoolers again provide

a wonderful Christmas Program

After weeks of practice and preparation, our Sunday

Schoolers presented their 2018 Christmas Program

during the 10:30 service on December 16. This year’s

program, entitled The Manger Tales, was told through a

format in which four animals associated with the Nativity

were interviewed on a TV talk show. The script was

adapted from resources provided by

www.TeachSundaySchool.com.

The hostess on the talk show, Laura Prince LIVE, was

skillfully portrayed by 6th grader Emma TeLindert. Her

four guests — a donkey, a cow, a sheep, and a camel —

were convincingly played by Peyton Woods, Delaney

Rinehart, Bella Rabe, and Alexis Hayes, respectively. All

of them did a superb job.

From the pulpit, other students read

from the Gospels of Luke and

Matthew as well as provided

commentary and perspective on the

Christmas story. These included Max

Friedrich, Kaylee Schlenske, Julia

Booth, Alexis Hayes, Peyton Woods, Delaney Rinehart,

and Rachel Guenther. The Christmas message was

enthusiastically reinforced with songs and hymns by the

entire Sunday School.

In addition, the talk show’s three “sponsors” offered pre-

recorded commercials. Players for Luke’s Previously-

Owned Beasts of Burden were A.J. Hayes and Orion

Bork; for Matthew’s Tax Service were Julia Booth, Evan

TeLindert, Shawn Guenther, Delaney Rinehart, and

Alexis Hayes; and for Bethlehem Feed-Farm were Joshua

Booth, Carson Schoblaske, Layla Smiltneek, and

Brooklynne Angell (who played a remarkably adorable

unicorn).

Janell Duwell provided musical accompaniment and Kim

Dawson served as our audio-visual technician. The three

sponsor commercials were created and produced with

help from our Middle Schoolers.

On a different subject, the Sunday School kids will be

donating $300 to the ELCA’s U.S. Wildfires Disaster

Response. As we all know, wildfires have recently

devastated communities in California. Working through

Lutheran Social Services organizations in the state’s

northern and southern regions, these contributions will

be used to help those affected by these wildfires.

Funding for this effort was taken from money set aside

the Sunday School’s Offering account.

Parents/Grandparents: After our brief Winter Recess,

Sunday School will resume on January 6th. We know

that a lot of winter activities start demanding family time,

but we urge you to encourage your student’s ongoing

participation.

Greetings Families and Friends of

Peace Christian Preschool,

Our December whirlwind may have left us a bit exhausted but it also was a time of creating some great memories. We had special visitors and great displays of support for our children and program. We are grateful that January will be more low key but we plan to have some memorable days this month as well.

One very memorable visit in December was orchestrated by a parent of one of our 4K children. This particular parent works as a caregiver at a home for disabled adults. When one of her clients told her that he wanted to give out Christmas gifts for children she orchestrated a plan to bring him to visit her daughter’s classroom with gifts for both the classroom and for the individual children. In appreciation for the gifts the children performed their holiday concert songs for the visiting group. It was an experience that made a lasting impact on all adults in the room and brightened the children’s morning!

Our holiday concerts, while exhausting, do provide an extremely endearing memory for all who attend. We filled the sanctuary two different nights because we can’t fit everyone in on one night. While there’s always a couple of instances leading up to the night of the concert that we question if this is really worth all of the time and effort, the evening of the concert reminds us that these moments really do matter.

Parents, grandparents, and other special people come out in force to show their love and support. Each year we host a bake sale which is another display of support, we sold out of our abundance of baked goodies and had to turn people away.

One new fundraiser we tried before Christmas was a meat raffle. At the time this article was submitted, the raffle had not taken place yet. It’s always a bit intimidating to try something new but we were approached with the opportunity to provide a fun and engaging fundraiser, so we thought, why not? I’ll include a report in February’s newsletter on the results.

We are eagerly looking forward to our annual visit from Rick the Magician the last week of January. We are blessed with sponsorship for this event by a church member. Rick’s magic show is a nice way to brighten up the chilly January days. His show amazes the little children and leaves all of the adults smiling from ear to ear.

On the business end, we are now taking applications for the next school year. If you have a child or know of a child who will be 3-years-old by the next school year, please consider sending them to Peace Christian Preschool. Applications will be accepted from January first until all of the spots are filled. We have the most exceptional staff who provide an amazing experience!

Wishing you all Love, Peace and Happiness, Heather B. Miller Center Director Peace Christian Preschool
