Sunday Jan. 3, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. The actual day is Jan. 6, which happens to be my birthday! This day is celebrated around the world as the day of the visitation of the Magi—a day when Jesus is revealed as our Savior.

What an incredible revelation to the Gentiles to find out that Our Divine Lord was born.On Monday, we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, the day the Holy Spirit came down from heaven on the day of Jesus’ glorious

baptism. He was proclaimed the beloved Son of the Father. This was our Lord’s second manifestation or epiphany. These feasts conclude the Christmas Season, but let us work to keep the joy of the season in our hearts and in our lives.Amen? Amen!

Epiphany CookiesMakes cookies in the shape of stars.

Ingredients: 8 tablespoons (1/2 cup) butter; ¼ cup sugar; 2 egg yolks; 1 and ½ cups flour. Cream butter and add sugar and egg yolks.

Gradually blend in flour. Roll out cookie dough (to about 1/8” thick) on a floured board. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter and cut out cook-ies and decorate (optional) with sprinkles.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

    Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies.

The Story of the Three Wise

    Kings Beautiful picture book

that tells the story of the three kings as they

follow the star and bring gifts to the Baby

    Jesus.

Epiphany House BlessingThis Saturday and Sunday blessed chalk will be available at the doors for you to take home. The blessing of the home is a popular Epiphany custom. The gospel tells us that the magi found Christ “on entering the house.” The door to your home is a holy thresh-old. Using specially blessed chalk, many households inscribe above the door the first two numbers of the year + C + M + B then the last two numbers of the year. Tradition tells us that the letters stand for the names of the magi; Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. The inscription also stands for the Latin phrase Christus Mansio-nem Benedicat, which means “May Christ, bless this dwelling.” It is appropriate to bless your door in January, as janua means “door” and the first month is the door to the New Year. Write above the entry way with the chalk: 20 + C + M + B + 20.

    Catechesis (kat’i-ke’sis) n.

The Apostles’ CreedThe Apostles’ Creed is the epitome of Christian doctrine. In twelve articles, it contains the truths taught by the Apostles. It has existed essentially since the second century and was first referred to in the fourth century. The earliest text dates from the eighth century. Developed by early Church councils, it was adopted in its present form in the eleventh century. Since the early centuries of the Western Church, catechumens were required to learn and recite it before baptism.

Know your SaintsSt. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein (1891-1942))A brilliant philosopher who stopped believ-ing in God when she was 14, Edith Stein was so captivated by reading the autobiography of Teresa of Avila (October 15) that she began a

spiritual journey that led to her Baptism in 1922. Twelve years later she imitated Teresa by becoming a Carmelite, taking the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.

Born into a prominent Jewish family in Breslau (now Wroclaw, Poland), Edith abandoned Judaism in her teens. As a student at the University of Göttingen, she became fascinated by phenomenology, an approach to philosophy. Excelling as a protégé of Edmund Hus-serl, one of the leading phenomenologists, Edith earned a doctorate in philosophy in 1916. She continued as a university teacher until 1922 when she moved to a Dominican school in Speyer; her ap-pointment as lecturer at the Educational Institute of Munich ended under pressure from the Nazis.

After living in the Cologne Carmel (1934-38), she moved to the Carmelite monastery in Echt, Netherlands. The Nazis occu-pied that country in 1940. In retaliation for being denounced by the Dutch bishops, the Nazis arrested all Dutch Jews who had become Christians. Teresa Benedicta and her sister Rosa, also a Catholic, died in a gas chamber in Auschwitz on August 9, 1942.Saint John Paul II beatified Teresa Benedicta in 1987 and canon-ized her 12 years later.

A CHRISTMAS WISHFr. Jamie’s has had a dream of an expanded play area – with fun equipment for ALL the children of the parish — since the last playset was removed for safety purposes eight years ago.

The Finance Committee has approved this capital expense and have directed that monies from our Christmas collection be used to finance this development.

The playground will be located on the Taylor Avenue side of the property which will make it available for school as well as the convenient use for children during par-ish socials held in the Commons.

St. Cecilia parishioners are always very generous to the parish at Christmas time. Please consider a special gift this Christmas to the parish for our children. Your gift will bring much joy and smiles to many faces.

Your support of the parish and Fr. Jamie’s dreams for all his flock are most appre-ciated. You can use your Christmas envelope to make your gift, or any envelope and mark it CHRISTMAS. Or, you can donate online using the CHRISTMAS fund desig-nation. Or you can text your gift to 513-434-3577. This is a gift that will last for many years and benefit the future parish generations to come. Merry Christmas!
