Case Study: Two-Generation Work

Launched in 2013 in response to extensive landscaping work, including a look at: Quantitative Data: •  As of 2008, one in ten girls in our region did not complete high school. DC public schools have the lowest graduation rate in the nation at 60%.

•  Teen pregnancy impacts a mother’s educational attainment and economic security. Only 40% of teen mothers are likely to have graduated from high school, and just 2% of girls who have children before age 18 finish college by age 30.

Qualitative Data: •  There is a critical gap in services and funding for middle school aged youth, and very few programs or policies that approach this work with a gender lens.

Page 15: Epip wawf-using a gender lens

Case Study: Two-Generation Work

Focused on middle school aged girls and their female caregivers. Goals: •  Empower girls as social change agents. •  Support high school completion. •  Encourage positive choices that decrease risky behavior and early pregnancy, and increase health and well-being.

Request for Proposals: Encouraged collaboration between organizations.

Implementation: Planning grants to provide space for organizations to plan this new and exciting work.
