Introduction In the first phase of Envision Adams Morgan, volunteer working groups developed a report detailing the current state of our neighborhood. We then launched a survey to collect opinions and ideas from residents and local businesses in the areas of sustainability, housing, economy, transportation, community services, zoning, and historic preservation.

Between September 2014 and February 2015, we collected 535 responses and over 900 written suggestions concerning the future of the neighborhood! Survey respondents were self-selecting and responses were not tracked or weighted by demographics. While we did what we could within our means to spread the word, we acknowledge that this survey did not necessarily reach a representative sample of the over 16,000 residents of Adams Morgan. The results should be interpreted accordingly and considered reflective of the views of only those who participated in the survey. Nevertheless, those who did participate shared some excellent and constructive ideas. We encourage everyone to consider all comments offered with an open mind and in the spirit of community.

25 I really like the painted bike lanes. I in-line-skate to work regularly. I have noticed a dramatic improvement indriver tolerance of my being on the road since the city painted the bike lanes. 39 Adams Morgan has been passed by even as many other neighborhoods received new or improved RecreationCenters while Kalorama Park has languished. This has happened while demand has increased for meetingspace, kid's activities, better space for indoor activities, etc. Marie Reed should have been redone to be rid of theoutdated open pan concept that is disliked and discredited in favor of a multi story school with a public library onthe corner and some storefront retail. Newer pool and other facilties are needed there were there is ample space-- and multi story would better match the surrounding 3 story row house image.

43 DPR does not deliver proper upkeep of Kalorama Park and Walter Pierce. There should be an improved andrevamped new Rec Center at Kalorama Park; also the children's playgrounds should be improved due to the highdemand. There is very high demand by all ages for Kalorama Park and it is not suitable for what is needed insuch a densely populated area.

The new Potters House wants to get involved wthe community on every level and should be used. Talk to Tim Kumfer, transition manager about ideas. Look upweb site and call him. This is going to be a great resource for the ever more gentrified Adams Morgan.Parks/Rec: City to have more collaboration and cooperation with private volunteers. Senior Services: Work withthe new renovated Potters House to have groups for seniors,children, mothers with infants,toddlers for the toshare together and let seniors be in-place grand parents. Start organizing for an "Aging in Place" community likethse in Duont Circle, Cleveland Park, Capital Hill and Arlington, Va. There is nowhere for residents, guests and commercial vehicles to access parking for simple loading and unloading, wherethe hell do you expect people to park? In Southeast DC? Please ensure dog owners are using designated "dog park" areas when taking their dogs for recreation. 2.Distribute trash cans a bit more freely to see if walkers will use them to dispose of their personal trash (bottles,fast food bags, etc.) 3. There are more children than in the last 15 years here in the Kalorama Triangle, therefore,a "slow down" sign for motorists entering the area is worthwhile. 4. 55 Adams Morgan should become an Arts Districts help to revitalize economic development. Tax incentives encourage artists to live and work within these districts. In setting up these districts, that the development of an active artistic community, including artists in residence, in [these areas] would promote economic development, revitalization, tourism, employment opportunities, and encourage business development by providing alternative commercial enterprises. In short, the legislature was giving each of these communities the tools and incentive to develop a portion of its community by helping artists to live, work and contribute to community life, and for art galleries and exhibition spaces to help contribute to the economy of DC and Adams Morgan. Tax incentives: specifically, the legislation provides three different kinds of incentives; A. For artists who live and work within a specified district, any sale of work created within the district is exempt from state sales tax. B. For artists who live and work within a specified district, any income they receive from the sale of work they have created within the district is exempt from state personal income tax. C. For gallery spaces located within the boundaries of a specified district, the sale of original, one-of-a-kind works of art are exempt from state sales tax, whether or not they were created within the boundaries of the arts district.

56 The chain-link fence around the soccer field in Walter Pierce Park may be protecting the grass, but it hasdestroyed the park as a pleasant, open, place to enjoy, or even walk through on the way from Lanier Heights tothe Woodley Park Metro. The fence has now created a narrow, resticted path through the park that I no longerfeel comfortable walking though after dark. This fence should be removed, or possible moved many feet fartherinto the field from the walking path.

70 Is there any chance we could get rid of the fence at Walter Pierce park? It was apparently installed so that theycould charge for use of the facility, but does anybody use it now? I walk by most days and it used to be regularlyoccupied, but now I rarely see anyone, so unless people are using it mid-day weekdays, it is wasted space. Ihaven't even seen the drunk kickballers this summer. That means that even if making the city money is a higherpriority than having a nice park, it's still not successful, and some of the reasons for that cannot be changed.During the government shutdown, a number of kids soccer teams that usually play at Carter Barron played atWalter Pierce and I heard a lot of people say that they loved the high quality turf in the field and would be happyto have their kids play there regularly, but given the lack of parking it was unrealistic, and now they've never beenback. It's nice that the city has done all the work on the turf and I'm sure they couldn't keep it up without the fence,but I would much rather have crummy turf that people use than have beautiful turf and a big ugly fence. On asunny day, the dog park is full, the basketball court is full, the playground is full and it is a nice community feeling,and then there is that large empty space. So if there are any options to make a change to that, I would support it!

80 Supporting diverse cultural events that bring together other community member such as Ethiopian, Eritrean, localLatin American, Caribbean, African American...This includes mural projects, music (perhaps folk music of thesecultures) folk art events. One of the most aesthetically beautiful murals in the city (DC could use other types of artaside from strict realism) is the one on your website banner. . The Mexican and Central American, AfricanAmerican communities have a rich folk music tradition that is rarely heard in local communities. Put artists fromdifferent cultural backgrounds on your committee. Lets teach all not to fear difference.

Barracks Row is a great example of what 18th St. should be: lots of (mostly good)restaurants/bars, but also cute specialty stores (sweet lobby, pet stores, etc.) that draw people in for shopping.18th St. during the day is just a north/south thoroughfare - and it should be a destination, and at night, it's just aplace for residents to avoid. 31 Despite it's controversy, I think that proposed hotel complex near 18th and Columbia Road will bring agreater/steadier amount of people in what is still a residential neighborhood where a large percentage of theresidents leave during the day for other parts of the city. The liquor license moratoriums and legally sanctioned extortion's know as"Agreements" have hurt real restaurants expansion into the neighborhood. It would be nice to encourage fitness-oriented businesses thatare good neighborhood participants (Fleet Feet is a nice example). There are already two hardware stores nearby -- the one at Woodley and the one on 17th Street,so it's not clear that an additional hardware store is necessary. The nightclubs in the area have always had a badreputation and their patrons are mostly people from out of the area - why not focus on providing venues that willattract people who live in the area which in itself would help reduce the amount of crime. A venue similar to HStreet Country Club would provide a more quality bar/entertainment aspect to the young professionals. Alsobiergartens have been a huge hit - especially when the weather is nice - it would be great to have one in the areawith either a back patio or rooftop.

182 We need more middle cost range restaurants, or even less expensive ones, that serve healthy food. If you look atour restaurants now, the ones that serve healthy food are really high end - all the rest are either repetitive of eachother and eventually cannibalize each other's business, or they serve really unhealthy food choices of starch andfat (noodle restaurants, pizza, falafel, empanadas, so many calories and not much fresh ingredients without thestarch and fat). The issue of restaurants mimicking each other then driving each other out of business includepizza places, falafel and schwarma places, now BBQ places. How about if we get a few more places that serve anice variety and healthy mix of food like Tryst does? Or more vegetarian options high in protein like Protein Bar orSweet Green? (even though they are chains, their food is good, they are clean and run well). I hate torecommend chains though, because they will be the downfall of our neighborhood if we allow too many in.
