Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to• demonstrate a clear understanding of the nature

and scope of environmental law• discuss the constitutional protection of

environmental rights in South Africa• demonstrate an understanding of the statutory

duty of care• demonstrate an understanding of the new

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure• identify the listed activities for which an EIA

is a prerequisite• reflect on the new Air Quality Act’s system of

air quality management• describe the regulatory framework for

waste management• explain the regulatory framework

governing biodiversity• identify the various levels for administration and

implementation of environmental laws, and• demonstrate an understanding of the powers of

environmental management inspectors (EMIs) in compliance and enforcement.

Who should enrol?

This course is ideal for you if you are a government employee involved in decision making, implementation and development of the law and policy, or a private sector employee and/or manager in the industry, (including mining staff, legal advisors, legal practitioners and environmental assessment practitioners).

Admission requirements

Prospective delegates should at least have a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or relevant work experience.
