Health Change 1
Make Tracking VISIBLE
Design Opportunity:Weighing myself & tracking in google wasn’t sticking as well as I had hoped, nor was it producing the behavior impacts during the day.
Goal: Create a Daily Habit of Checking in with Health
Moved Tracking from...
Google Docs
My Mirror

Health Change 1: Make Tracking Household Visible
What happened
Insights: Felt “Scary” to make weight public - was a jumpstartDid impact behavior choices, but only until about noonMaking it visible where I’m getting ready for the day makes it move into the day
What this changes...- Makes Accountability a Household Activity- Creates a Trigger- Makes the logging Activity Easier
Failed: Weight went up - Perceived failure in impacting health choicesBUT...
Behavior Modified - Yoga in the morning + daily walkSince this wasn’t ‘scale’ related I didn’t realize that is was happening
Conclusion - Boosts background awareness w/ micro choices

Health Change 2
Kick Diet Coke to the Can
Design Opportunity:Free Diet Coke in the kitchen at work has made this habit hard to stop.
Goal: Stop Drinking Diet Coke all day long at work
created a ‘water cooler’ area NOT in the kitchen with all kinds of happy things that I LIKE

Health Change 2: Kick Diet Coke to the Can
What happened
Insights: 2 Emergent Need Buckets: Cognitive Decisions & Involuntary Decisions - I knew $ is a decision factor, but I didn’t realize HOW MUCH this drives “rewards” on choices.
- Making Kombucha gives me a ‘weekly anchor’ to make sure that I reload and restock...having it be a alive and will die if I don’t is key
Did impact behavior choices, but only until about noonMaking it visible where I’m getting ready for the day makes it move into the day
What this changes...- Replaces a Trigger- Re-Frames Reward (Free is a large Reward for me) - Makes Easier because $ is already spent, and it’s closer in reach than diet coke
Successful, Sometimes- I’m drinking atleast 3 cups of water daily.- I’m choosing tea, most of the time when I feel like I need a lift But when I’m stressed and I’m drained...Diet Coke is still my ‘Go To’

Health Change 3
Changing My Wallet
Design Opportunity:I dislike spending $, and this oftenmakes hard for me to chose healthy options.
Goal: Reframe “Rewards” to spending money on health
Put $40 in my wallet that I MUSTspend each week on health items(or I spend it on Household items)

Health Change 3: Changing My Wallet
What happened
Insights: - Even if you don’t fully ‘believe’ the change...it makes room for other behaviors, when 2 choices are close together in value.
- If I don’t feel good about spending $ on a healthy behavior, I will put a ‘to do’ for another work around (like carrying a water bottle) on my activity list for the next ‘high motivation’ wave moment, and since the activity is now only ‘temporary’ I can live with it until the next interval.
What this changes...- Separates “Expensive” from “Health” on daily activities- It’s a Trigger when I make purchase decisions- This is a build activity from an insight on #2
Successful, but not over the curve- I give myself permission now to buy something like water- I still don’t ‘feel’ right about it, and still have to convince myself that it’s ok- When something is FREE, I can’t spend $ on alternative
