GIRP 59TH ANNUAL MEETING & CONFERENCE
ANNOUNCEMENT
Dublin OUR HOST CITY
Founded as a Viking settlement, the Irish capital of Dublin expanded rapidly: it briefly reached the status of second largest city in the British Empire. Many of its breathtaking landmarks date back to hundreds of years while the capital also boasts a vibrant contemporary scene. Among the oldest features is Dublin Castle, built in 1204 as a major defensive work under the orders of England’s King John. Not too far, across the Liffley, stands the Spire of Dublin, also titled “Monument of Light”, symbol of revival and dynamism. Beyond the history and architecture, Dublin charms by the conviviality and the intimacy it offers while providing an array of concerts and shows and activities which makes her so unique!
Ireland OUR HOST COUNTRY
The Emerald Isle, as first described by Irish poet William Drennan, rightfully gained her title for her breathtaking landscapes and scenery. Her rare geological properties combined with the island’s oceanic climate have, over centuries, made for an astonishing diversity of terrain: the Irish wild and rugged coasts beautifully contrasting with the lush plains.
Uniquely rich of her mythological traditions, Ireland’s long history is riddled with stories of druids, leprechauns, dragons and gods. Celtic ballads and sean-nós (“old-style” Irish-language singing) will take you on a journey throughout tales of love and historic feats. Proud of their strong heritage, the welcoming locals will happily share their stories with visitors preferably while enjoying a good pint!
WE CORDIALLY INVITE YOU TO JOIN US FOR OUR 59TH ANNUAL MEETING & CONFERENCE IN DUBLIN, IRELAND!

GIRP 59TH ANNUAL MEETING & CONFERENCE 3
René Jenny,
GIRP President
Dear Friends,
Innovation has become the key factor driving change and transformation in the pharmaceutical value chain. The ongoing technology revolution keeps fostering hugely valuable entrepreneurial opportunities which benefit both patient care and delivery processes. It has become an indispensable tool to our activities and we need to engage with innovative players and be the originator of innovation ourselves.
Artificial intelligence, big data analytics, digital imaging, sensor technology, robotics to name a few, have revolutionised patient care and in a broader sense, healthcare systems, offering solutions to monitor, prevent, and more generally improve health care. They also generate new possibilities to further streamline our operations.
It is also a time when we need to leverage our strengths and consolidate partnerships to keep our supply chain safe and efficient thereby adding value. As mentioned, new technologies are redefining the way we work, the way we operate and the way we cooperate. The supply chain is evolving greatly and with it are our practices, our processes, and our businesses. To assist its members and partners in this path and promote a constant discussion between stakeholders, GIRP has launched this year, a new initiative: the European Healthcare Value Chain Network, as a platform for the exchange of information, learnings, expertise, competencies, solutions and services. The forum focuses on how working in partnerships adds better value for all involved including of course patients. We are therefore connecting dynamic supply chain stakeholders (pharmaceutical specialty, branded and generic industries, healthcare distributors, healthcare retailers and supply chain providers) committed and dedicated to building long-term partnerships as part of an overall vision for creating and delivering a true healthcare value chain.
With this in mind, GIRP has developed a business programme for this conference built around our shared goal of facilitating a strong and steady collaboration at all levels of the value chain and with the objective of setting a forward-looking tone for the discussion. We are proud to have convened a fantastic line-up of speakers, ranging from the political figures and policy-makers to business and professional experts. Together, they will tackle issues of innovation, investment, entrepreneurship, legislation, market trends, healthcare accessibility and explore new ways to convert business opportunities into valuable partnerships.
We will delve into the subject from the get-go with opening and keynote addresses concentrating on the topic of improving healthcare and powering innovation through technology.
Executives across the value chain will dig into their experience and expertise to bring different perspectives on how to build efficient and resilient healthcare systems and on the power of a solid cooperation to improve outcomes. Our panelists will offer cases and best-in-class operating practices to support their input.
We will also hear from leaders in their field on the extensive insights brought by real-world data in healthcare. Our panelists will then share their observations on current and future market trends in the sector.
We will later dive further into the matters of innovation with a panel focused on the transformative power of technologies in healthcare as well as on growing opportunities for collaboration in the value chain.
We will end our conference on the very current topic of the Falsified Medicines Directive implementation. We have never been so close to the deadline of February 2019 and we will focus this last session on providing you with updated information on the next steps to be undertaken. We encourage you to use this platform to discuss and exchange with the speakers on stage and bring your own perspective to the dialogue.
We are certainly looking forward to welcoming you in Dublin very soon ! As you will see, we have made sure to provide you with a programme of social events to favour networking, encounters with old friends and connections with new partners!
See you very soon,René Jenny
