Transcript of ENPH 259 FINAL LAB PROJECT - phas.ubc.caenph259/2017-18Term1/... · • Your final lab notebook is...
• You have 4 lab periods to complete the lab. (note: it used to be 3!)Otherwise, the lab is open everyday from 2-5 PM for you to work.
• Choose your own partners even if you have already worked with them this term (or I will assign). YOU and YOUR PARTNER MUST BE FROM THE SAME SECTION
• If you don’t have a partner by Monday Nov 7 at noon EMAIL me with your lab preference now.
• Choose either the ADC lab or the Servo Motor lab (..but only 12 servos/section).
• Your lab notebooks are due Dec 1 at 11:59pm
• Your final lab notebook is worth 20% (+6% for drafts) of your total mark for ENPH 259…. is it worth spending time on it.
ENPH259FINALLABPROJECT
• Your lab notebook should include explanations of how the circuits work and what you did to troubleshoot your difficulties as well as what those difficulties were…think of it as a manual for next year’s class when they build an Servo or ADC.
• Include a picture of your final circuit as you will be marked on how “tidy” and organized it is….this is for your own good! Examples will follow
• If you have your own needle noise pliers and/or wire strippers bring them to lab to use
• You will have a separate breadboard to carry over from each day

• Your final lab notebook is worth 26% (20% +6%) of your total mark for ENPH 259…. is it worth spending time on it.
• Suggestions from TAs for the writeups:1. Include plenty of pictures to show functionality of each component.
(example: input and output of TPG for ADC lab)
2. Explain how each part of the circuit works. Do not just say yes, it works! How does it work and why are you getting the results that you are?
3. Make sure to include uncertainties on numbers when you take any measurements.
4. Your lab notebook writeup must be your own work (DO NOT work on the writeup together and then copy portions into your lab notebook)
5. Make theoretical calculations and/or predictions, so they can compare your results to something that you expect (example: what is the clock rate that you expect to successfully calibrate your ADC for ADC lab)

• There will be 1 tutorial periods (Nov 21) where you will be asked to bring a paper copy of your lab notebook to tutorial.
• You will give a copy of your lab notebook to someone who is doing the other experiment to comment on.
• You must upload a copy of the comments to get credit.
• Nov 21:-Must have a copy of the Background, Introduction, and results up to Section 3.2 for the Servo Lab and Section 3.3 of the ADC (at a minimum) for review (worth 6% of final mark)
